4. Because we only recall 20% of what we read.

5. And only 10% of what we hear.

6. But here’s the catch!

7. We can easily recall 80% of what we see.

8. Isn’t that insane?

9. Doesn’t it seem odd?

10. Think about it.

11. Without going back, try to remember what image was on the page 2 slides back.

12. If you said a question mark, you’re right.

13. But do you remember the text?

14. No?

15. Doesn’t that seem odd?

16. That’s because our visual memory is stronger than our recall of text or full sentences.

17. Here’s another one for you, look at these kittens.

18. Without going back, try to remember what they looked like.

19. What did your eyes doas you tried to recall those kittens?

20. Did you look up and to the left?

21. There’s a 90% chance you did.

22. 90% of people lookup and to the left when remembering something they’ve seen.

23. And inversely look up and to the rightwhen imagining something, or creating something in their mind.

24. Basically, leftis for remembering, rightis for creating.

25. This is why most poker players wear sunglasses to shield their bluffs.

26. And it’s a tactic detectives use to tell if a suspect is lying.

27. In fact our visual memory is so vivid that scientists have discovered a way to create a video from our thoughts.

28. Scientists at Berkeley can actually show you a video rendering of your visual memory.

29. Albeit pixelated, most images are pretty clear as to what was “seen.”

30. But howis this possible?

31. By using “functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging”, or “fMRI”,measuring blood flow through the brain’s visual cortex.

32. The different sections of the brain are split into volumetric pixels, or “voxels” mapped out in a computational model.

33. Mapping brain activity to visual memory.

34. Which means in the coming years we could literally re-live our dreams.

35. Or re-create a crime scene from a witnesses memory.

36. We’ve only touched on the potential of our visual memory, and tapping into what it could mean for our future.
