The document summarizes a children's Christmas party held by the Action for Street Kids Peru Project. It describes decorating the hall, shopping for presents, enjoying a cake and piñata, the children putting on shows and dancing, and being well-behaved. The children received t-shirts, crocs, watches and enjoyed their presents. The event allowed the children to have a happy celebration and for donors to see the impact of their support.
2. Shopping for the
children with Ana
Tere and Charo.
They all received a
t-shirt, some crocs
and a plastic watch
Gail looking after
the Piñata which
was full of
chocolate and
sweets
3. The hall was beautifully
decorated by the
teachers who appeared
to have a wonderful
relationship with the
kids!
And there was
a lovely cake -
it tasted as
good as it
looked!
6. The children were
extremely well
behaved at all
times – not like my
kids!
And there
was plenty of
dancing and
an
entertainer!
7. They loved their
presents, some going
into corners to open
theirs in private. They
also brought plastic bags
with them so that they
could take some dinner
home for their families
8. They are in a family with 6 children; a father, who the social workers and
psychiatrist says is a caring father, just seldom there. He is unemployed,
and the mother fights with him whenever he is around. The mother is
said to be harsh and uncaring toward the children. She did not, for
instance, register any of them with the Government (no birth certificate
or identity document of any kind which meant the children had no rights
and the state no obligation for them). ASK got all the children registered
and with legal identity documents last year. They live in an
unfinished house with no water or electricity, across the dirt track from
the Nuevo Jerusalén school.
Moises (6) is seated beside his
older brother, Jonathan, in this
photo.
When Moises received his plate
with a chicken leg, French fries
and salad; he grasped the
plate with both hands, his eyes
lit up and he asked innocently:
"Is all this for me?“
(we cried)
9. Sonia, another student
aged 8, is also one of 6
children living on the edge
of Nuevo Jerusalén which
borders the mountain,
in a "ranchero" with no
services at all, similar to
those pictured below.
ASK taught her mother to knit and
she is now part of the co-operative
they set up for mothers of the
students, earning something toward
the cost of her large family. Sonia
attends the Nuevo Jerusalen shanty
school along with her older sister.
Also pictured here are some of
the Nuevo Jerusalen students
holding the ´thank-you´ banner.
10. Here are the kids at the end of the party, taking time to thank all of
the amazing payroll donors who help to keep the schools open and
give hope every day.
11. And here I am saying goodbye to one of those amazing
children (I gave her my hat and she was over the moon!)
It was one of the best days of my life without exception, the
kids were wonderful and I could easily have brought a few
home in my case if it was allowed!
It was wonderful to see the money raised by donors in England
making these deprived children so happy and well looked after.
