Erasmus University College kicked off in 2013 in Rotterdam. Their website is still in development and they were looking for a way to stand out between other university colleges and appeal to international students. That’s why they created a virtual tour, which is unique in its way. Not only does the tour provide a look inside the building but it also contains interactive elements such as videos and even a game. Joia de Jong, their in-house graphic designer and initiator, will give you all the ins and outs of the tour and its outcomes.

- Erasmus University College, also known as EUC, is the international honour's college of Erasmus University. We offer an intense multi-disciplinary, liberal arts and sciences education. In 2013 we were founded, so we are still relatively young. Special about our college is our close-knit community which offers a wide variety of both academic and extracurricular activities, our international student population and our beautiful location in the city centre of Rotterdam. - I am Joia de Jong, I am the in-house graphic designer of Erasmus University College and part of the Marketing and recruitment team of EUC. I am presenting the project, because I proposed the idea and helped execute the project.

- This quote remembers us of how important emotions and atmosphere are. When choosing a university, it is not only a rational process, it is also an emotional one.
- International students from far abroad picking a university via a website, but not getting the feel of how the university is. We want to provide them with an experience of what EUC is like, because there is so much more to an university than only its curriculum. Imagine that they have to pick a university from the impression of a website or that they have to travel all around the world to discover the culture just wasn’t there thing.
- 50% of our student population is international. So by creating the virtual tour, we serve a great amount of prospective students.
- Many prestigious university colleges rise from the ground. We are noticing a lot of competition when it regards prospective students. Mostly students are in doubt between us and another university college. We believe that every university college has its own signature and atmosphere. Therefore, we believe that the virtual tour can contribute in creating a positive reputation.
- Right here, right now is the motto of the conference. And well, right here, right now, Rotterdam is innovating, being one of the most state of the art cities in the Netherlands. Similarly, we have to go along with our time. We are currently in the process of renewing are website, but it’s a long process, by having a medium such as a virtual tour, we have a state of the art medium that can convince our students about our qualities in a different way.

- Our vision was that we wanted to give students an experience of what EUC is about. Our mission was to profile EUC and attract more prospective students. By accentuating the following points, we believed the mission could be completed.

The conversion was …, the conversion is not incredibly high, because we had chosen for a large amount of quiz questions. This is because we wanted to add a game element and wanted to give a prize to a serious prospective student. If one wants a higher conversion, one can limit the quiz questions or at the beginning of the tour ask for credentials. Yet, we also added a lot of links in the tour itself, the conversion of these links amounted to … In the end, our aim was not so much to focus upon the conversion. Instead, we wanted to draw people over the line by providing them with a pleasant, interactive, multimedial experience. Whether this goal has been accomplished, will be measured this year by a questionnaire.
