This document discusses how videogames are helping science in several ways: 1) Videogames like Foldit are helping scientists solve difficult protein structure prediction problems by engaging players worldwide and leveraging their problem-solving skills. Foldit players were able to generate protein structure models that scientists could use to determine the structure of a retroviral protease. 2) Videogames provide a venue for scientific experiments like CASP, which tests protein structure prediction methods. In CASP9, Foldit players' predictions in the free modeling category, where they combined features from multiple starting models, were competitive with other top methods. 3) Videogames drive technological innovation, like new input devices and display technologies,
