Woven polypropylene bags, also known as woven PP bags, are the toughest packing bags available, and are commonly used to pack materials for the grain, milling, and sugar industries. Furthermore, these bags are commonly used in the fodder, pesticides, and fertilizer industries, as well as the cement industry and other applications such as sand, metal parts, and concrete.

INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING PROPERTIES OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTSJohnson Santhosh
Engineering Properties of Agricultural Materials
Introduction
Engineering properties are the properties which are useful and necessary in the design and
operation of equipment employed in the field of agricultural processing. They are also useful for
design and development of other farm machinery. As mentioned earlier unit operations such as
cleaning, grading, drying, dehydration, storage, milling, handling and transportation, thermal
processing of foods are among the important operations in agricultural processing. In these
operations while handling of grains and other commodities the properties which play and
important role are physical, mechanical, frictional, rheological, aero and hydrodynamic, electrical
and optical properties of the bio materials. Basic information on these properties are of great
importance and help for the engineers, food scientists and processors towards efficient process and
equipment development. An attempt has been made to describe some of the engineering
properties usually encountered in post production handling of agricultural crops.
Physical properties
The physical properties such as size, shape, surface area, volume, density, porosity, colour
and appearance are important in designing particular equipment or determining the behaviour of
the product for its handling.
Various types of cleaning grading and separation equipment are designed on the basis of
physical properties of seeds such as size, shape, specific gravity, surface roughness, colour etc.
For designing an air screen grain cleaner, the shape and size of the grain determine the shape and
size of screen openings, angle of inclination and vibration amplitude and frequency of screens.
The density of the grains decides the size of screening surface. The frontal area and related
diameters and density are essential for determination of terminal velocity of the grain. Terminal
velocity is necessary to decide about the winnowing velocity of air blast for separation of lighter
materials in air screen grain cleaners.
The shape of product is an important parameter which affects conveying characteristics of
solid materials by air or water. The shape is also considered in calculation of various cooling and
heating loads of food materials.
The frontal area and the related diameters are essential for determination of terminal
velocity Reynold’s number and drag coefficient. The density and specific gravity are needed for
calculating the thermal diffusivity in heart transfer operations, in determining Reynold’s number,
in pneumatic and hydraulic handling of the agricultural materials. The surface characteristics, colour and appearance are exploited for selective separation
and storage of fruits and vegetables.
Some of the important physical properties are described below.
Shape and size
The following parameters may be measured for describing the shape and size of the granular
agricultural materials.
(i)Roundness: It is a measure of the sharpness of the solid material.

"The Aloha House Story: Serving the Community Through Agricultural Extension"
Agricultural Extension is a great tool for the development worker who wants to impact their community while minimising risk to the small hold farmer and back yard producer. Aloha House started as an orphanage for children in crises and now also is working with families and single parents. Healthy food production is an integral component and the organic farm grew out of that desire. As interest grew and trainings were undertaken, ECHO Technical notes were key to fast tracking the success and profitability of our farm. Join us on this adventure as Keith highlights some of their successes and failures in this 15 year adventure.
Keith Mikkelson is the Executive Director of Aloha House inc., an NGO founded with his wife to help Philippine families. Aloha House is an orphanage located on an organic farm that produces food for the children, staff and customers in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines. Keith's book A Natural Farming System for Sustainable Agriculture in the Tropics has sold over 5,000 copies.
This is how we built our local-fired-clay-bricked-wood-fired-domed-Italian-pizza oven step by step. Get the bricks first! Enjoy! We baked 2x per week for the orphanage and our customers. Sour dough, whole wheat french bread, pan de sal, bagels and pizza galore. We also roast free range chicken, Peking duck, turkey, pork ribs and beef. As the bricks retain heat for days we also dry moringa for our capsuled products as well as artemesia, mint teas and other medicinals.
PART 2: Alternative building techniques- we use on site materials to keep costs low, clay subsoil, 50% rice hull for high R walls, which requires a stabiliser. Pneumatic tampers can work also, moist clay and sand become in effect sandstone, no stabiliser needed, but less insulation.

Vermiculture is the scientific process of culturing of worms in producing vermicompost. Vermicompost is nutrient rich worm castes. Worm castes is excreted product of worms which obtain in provides organic/biodegradable as a food source for worms. These vermicomposting method is very perfect for producing biofertilizers. Advantages and Disadvantages are mentioned here.

FAO Second International Technical Seminar/Workshop on Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) There is a way forward! FAO Technical Cooperation Programme: TCP/INT/3501 and TCP/INT/3502.
In recent years, the talk on Organic Farming is going on. how can we control the weed plants in the field without using the herbicide the question. there are several methods traditionally used and scientifically proved methods are discussed here.
The attached summary highlights the benefits of the Cross Slot no-till seeding system over other inferior seeding technologies.
In many cases Cross Slot can be the difference between a farmer getting his seed in the ground in wet or dry conditions.... if another piece of seeding technology does not allow the farmer to get his crop in then the farmer has had a failure.

No-till farming and the search for sustainability in dryland agricultureIIED
A presentation given by Bill Crabtree to the International Institute for Environment and Development during a seminar on conservation tillage on 28 March, 2014.
Better known as no-till Bill, Crabtree is one of the most fervent promoters of no-till farming, having spent more than 25 years researching and extending these farming practices in his home country, Australia, and the world. He shared his experience on how he has contributed to convert large areas of abandoned degraded land into productive fields, and discussed the technical and institutional factors that supported this transformation.
The seminar was jointly organised by IIED's agroecology team and the Tropical Agricultural Association.
A video interview with Crabtree conducted at the same event can be seen on slide 105, or via http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9zFLNNH_sY.
