- 2. Carol's Theory Carol Vernallis is very well known for her theory which applies to music videos and the editing techniques used within them. Her theory focuses on 4 key aspects which include the narrative, camerawork and the editing. These concepts relate to the way in which the music video is manufactured.
- 3. Camera movement and Framing Vernallis believes that when it comes to shot types, extremes are very common and the style of framing and movement may run through the video and is distinctive to that video.
- 4. Editing The editing may match the musical phrases in the song, or the beat which is not unusual in music videos. Also, the video may break, or disrupt, the 'rules' of continuity editing and this is also a convention in music videos.
- 5. Slow Motion Slow motion is the action of showing film or playing back video more slowly than it was made or recorded, so that the action appears much slower than in real life.
- 6. Jump cuts A jump cut is an abrupt transition from one scene to another.
- 7. Close Ups A close up is a shot taken at close range or with a long focal-length lens, on a relatively large scale.
- 8. Continuity Editing The purpose of continuity editing is to smooth over the inherent discontinuity of the editing process and to establish a logical coherence between shots.
