Respect is treating others the way you want to be treated and involves not making fun of or disrespecting others. We should respect older people by recognizing their life experiences and wisdom, listening to them attentively, and staying engaged when they share stories from their lives. Depression in older adults can be caused by health problems, isolation, fears of declining abilities, loss of purpose, and recent bereavement. We can help older people by listening to them, picking up medications, looking at old photos with them, reading, cooking, visiting them, and playing board games.
