Valero volunteers collected 27,000 pounds of food and packed 1,800 boxes for families in need in 2013. Over the years 2009 to 2013, Valero volunteers contributed over 120,000 pounds of food and 1,657 hours of service to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans & Acadiana. Valero will continue to donate and promote volunteering in 2014 to support the Greater New Orleans and Acadiana community.

The Ypsilanti Area Community Fund (YACF) awarded SOS Community Services a $1,000 grant to increase access to their Choice food pantry from 4 times annually to 6 times plus an additional visit during holidays. The grant will help SOS provide food to over 140 households and distribute over 4,500 pounds of food each week. YACF has awarded over $32,000 in grants to 7 local organizations in 2014 and has raised over $2 million since its founding to support organizations in the Ypsilanti area.

The organization aims to reach out to the less fortunate and brighten their lives while embracing values of professionalism, efficiency, and sustainability. It operates bread donation and food goodie bag programs that supply food staples to over 1,000 school children's families, helping to supplement their livelihoods.
Second Harvest Heartland - Volunteer Orientation Presentation
Second Harvest Heartland is the largest hunger relief organization in the Upper Midwest region, serving over 1,000 member agencies across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. It obtains food through donations, purchases, and federal programs, and distributes over 41 million pounds of food annually through food banks and programs that provide meals to vulnerable groups including children, families, and seniors. Volunteers are critical to its operations, contributing over 40,000 hours last year equivalent to $1 million in support.

1954 beginning experience-3631
The Beginning Experience team provides grief support services to widowed, separated, and divorced adults through a weekend program. The team is led by Rose Brocato and includes 9 other members. They help participants work through their grief by teaching coping skills and giving them tools to let go of pain. Participants form new friendships and learn from others who have experienced similar losses. The team plans to offer more weekend programs each year and start a youth program, but needs funding for scholarships and future events like an international convention.

The GE Volunteers chapter made the holidays special for children at the Children's Home Society and Hacienda Girl's Ranch. They received 40 wish lists from foster kids and decorated a Christmas tree with them. Volunteers also selected a wish list and donated gifts. Additionally, volunteers visited Hacienda Girl's Ranch before Thanksgiving to hang lights and cook sides and desserts for their meal.

Holy Family Shelter is an emergency shelter for homeless families in Indianapolis, Indiana that provides food, shelter, and services to help families become self-sufficient. The shelter houses up to 30 families per night. One resident, Janet Williams, expressed relief when a team donated food, clothes, and hygiene products to the shelter, as the food pantry was running low. The team cleaned the kitchen, served lunch, and prepared Thanksgiving dinner during their visit. Going forward, they plan to establish ongoing relationships to provide monthly donations and assistance to keep the shelter running.

A group called Meridian Village Ladies Knit and Quilt Club made custom blankets, hats, booties, and quilts for babies in the neonatal intensive care unit. They worked for 6 months making over 100 items for Basket of Hope, an organization that delivers baskets of gifts and love to children in hospitals. Members were happy to see their handmade items go to babies in need.

They were able to present Angela from Basket of Hope with 9 puff quilts, various blankets and quilts, 102 preemie baby items, and other handmade goods. The members felt good knowing their work would help babies in hospitals.

We delivered over 80 baskets to children with cancer and other illnesses at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx. The baskets contained items like crafts, toys, and NFL hats to bring hope and encouragement to the children during their daily struggles. Our goal is to continue partnering with Basket of Hope to deliver baskets to more hospitals in the tri-state area and provide support to more children and their families.

Gospel Trick Shot Ministries uses billiard trick shot performances to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. They began in 1996 performing at churches and colleges, and now travel nationally and internationally, having visited places like Albania, Africa, and the Philippines. If they win prize money from the Super Service Challenge 2013, they plan to use it to travel to Russia in 2014 to perform and spread the message of Christ.

My team of 5 people volunteered at The Loft Food Pantry, serving over 1600 people by unloading trucks of food donations and stocking shelves. The food pantry has been operating since 2010 and has fed over 73,000 people regardless of attributes. My team plans to continue volunteering regularly. The food pantry needs a box truck to transport large food donations more efficiently since their growing clientele currently relies on volunteers' personal vehicles. Additional commercial freezers and coolers are also needed to store more perishable donations beyond the day they are received.Defender direct the refuge-3643
The Refuge seeks to provide stable support to men, women, and children experiencing poverty by meeting their physical, emotional, academic, and spiritual needs through community outreach. Volunteers distributed grocery bags and household supplies to over 50 families in need on one night, and continued delivering supplies until all were gone. The Refuge aims to help families grow and communities strengthen by addressing needs and fostering relationships. Donations would allow them to further support families and residents of Johnson County.

Two members of the DEFENDER team and one from OfficeMax volunteered with Kids Against Hunger, packing 100,000 meals for families in need over 4 hours. They plan to check the nonprofit's website for future volunteer opportunities. If awarded prize money, Kids Against Hunger would use it to buy food supplies, meal-packing equipment, and rent space for additional meal-packing events.

Isaiah House Ministries began in 2012 by providing groceries to 12 families and has since expanded to serve over 350 families per month. Volunteers and residents have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve others through Isaiah House and feel blessed by the positive impact it has on people's lives. Defender's support allows Isaiah House to maintain and expand their services to more people in need across Northern Kentucky through God's grace.
Bike easy bike easy-3629
Bike Easy partnered with Dr. Eric Griggs and volunteers to hold educational bike rides at two city parks on September 28th and October 12th. Over 40 riders ages 6-63 learned bike safety and how to feel comfortable on bikes while getting exercise. The rides included stops where riders learned their rights and responsibilities on the road. Dr. Griggs plans to continue the fun rides but is seeking funding to expand the program reach more people.

Advocates for Kids is a nonprofit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona that provides resources and essential items like food, clothing, and school supplies to children in need. They work with local agencies and schools to help families who have exhausted traditional assistance options. The nonprofit serves families partnered with Human Resource Training in Tempe, Arizona by providing holiday gifts and ongoing basic necessities. If they received prize money, it would allow the organization to continue helping more children, such as providing school uniforms and sponsoring families for Christmas through their adoption program.

The New Room is a nonprofit organization focused on literacy. It operates several literacy programs, including after-school tutoring to help students meet grade-level reading standards in reading, math, and other subjects. It also runs a summer enhancement program focused on reading, math, and arts for 1st and 2nd graders. The organization seeks to purchase various educational materials and services like internet access, software, supplies and Read Well curriculum packages to expand these programs which help children improve their literacy and educational outcomes.
