There is no doubt about the diligent
adherence to procedure and professionalism
displayed by the Security Council committee.
This can be attributed not only to the dedicated
delegates, but also to the strict supervision of
the Co-Chair Christian Bololoi and Chair Madis
Lemsalu – who ruled, as one delegate put it,
“with a fist of iron and a tie of wood.” Indeed,
his firmness was seen upon multiple occasions
throughout the event; most notably during one
instance when, upon asking permission to visit
the restroom, he ruthlessly ordered the
delegate of Sweden to “sit the fuck down.”
In truth, the committee was off to a rough
start, as some delegates had failed to prepare
their position on the topic. Regardless, they
powered through; and by the next you would
not have been able to tell that this debate was
merely a simulation. The delegates were in fact
so serious about their roles that South Sudan’s
punishment of singing “I Will Survive” for over-
use of personal pronouns was not appreciated.
The delegates’ sobriety is applauded however,
as discussing the topic of the South Sudan civil
war is indeed no laughing matter.
Despite the gravity of the debates, there
were still a number of notable moments;
namely South Sudan blaming other delegates of
using “alternative facts,” when accused of
corruption and inability to maintain a
government and military forces. Italy seemed to
have a distorted concept of the value of money,
as he once asked the World Bank for unlimited
funds. On another occasion he even demanded
helicopter transport to resolve his tardiness
issues, arguing that the 15 Euro participation fee
should have provided a large enough budget to
fulfill such a request. Russia adamantly spread
Communism with every note, and demonstrated
the truth behind the South Sudanese weapons
embargo in an Oscar-worthy performance in
which he pulled a smuggled banana out of his
pocket and aimed it directly at the delegate of
South Sudan.
After hour upon hour of heated debate and
tactful scheming, the committee pushed their
conflicts aside to put forward a resolution. Yet,
amidst the joy and relief upon the resolution’s
passing, a crisis was sprung on the already
spent committee: after multiple failed attempts,
North Korea had a successful missile launch
testing, putting countries such as the USA in
imminent threat of attack. Despite the intense
time pressure, the committee powered through
the crisis and commendably passed a resolution
in merely 60 minutes.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Despite the brief moment of unity in the
room, opinions were quickly divided as the crisis
situation unfolded. The world’s average age was
too high – something that must be put right. The
Russian federation, spearheading an anti-
homosexual campaign (or ‘AH!’ for short)
blamed the age increase on the
homosexual community due to lower birth
rates. South Sudan, Syria and Saudi Arabia,
amongst others, were clear supports of this
motive. Notes flew around the room as alliances
were formed. When discussing what to do with
the so-called ‘problem of homosexuals’ one
delegate responded with “we hang them. Oh,
flogging works fine as well.” Notes such as these
escalated throughout the room, as certain
delegates had clearly left their chill at the door
that day.
Whilst many delegates fought for their
beliefs with strong argumentation and
convincing statistics, the delegate of Syria must
be mentioned for his valour attempts. Quoting
the Quran in many of his arguments, Syria was
forced to apologize many times for forcing his
beliefs on the committee. Sanctions such as
dancing to ‘apple-pen’ and short bans from the
committee came down hard on Syria as he
continued to quote the Quran to prove that
homosexuality is indeed a mental illness. This
was supported by South Sudan who confidently
stood up and exclaimed: “There is nothing
wrong with homosexuals… apart from the fact
they are all mentally ill.” USA was not happy with
this remark and threats to cut aid, and impose
travel bans to certain countries were thrown
around the room. The tension could have been
cut with a knife.
Come Saturday morning, the delegates had
done their homework and managed to pass a
respectable resolution with plenty of time to
spare. The calm of the first day was indeed
short lived, as the storm was unleashed on the
remaining two days of debating. China showed
no remorse when proudly stating “I am a
woman, and I agree women are less than men”
when discussing the treatment and rights of
women. Needless to say, a 15-minute ban from
the committee (without electronic devices)
shortly ensued for the use of personal
pronouns. Tut tut China.
The delegates continued to become more
outspoken as an unexpected crisis evolved. As a
spokesperson barged into the room explaining
the nature of the crisis, a fellow delegate was
interrupted and stopped in her line of thought.
Outrage filled the room as her fellow
committee members felt the crisis outburst was
rude and unnecessary.
Tensions started
high as the General
Assembly committee
gathered for the first time on
Friday morning. Many struggled to
find their voice and fight for their
positions on the prevention of
violence in conflict zones. After a stern
word from the chair however, the
delegates dove into their research and
eventually got the ball rolling.

Despite the hot headed debates and rather
questionable notes, GA put on a great show.
The crisis was described as ‘difficult’ in an interview
with the delegate of Syria, due to the contrasting
opinions in the room. With a grin however, he quickly
added: “It did however generate some furious debating.
Great fun.” Working together, and making some major
compromises, this committee managed to successfully
pass all their resolutions. The crisis was also solved with
great professionalism – especially when discussing
methods of increasing the world’s ‘baby-making
capacity’. Passed resolutions, a solved crisis and some
very heated debates – GA definitely had a full house!

“Three words to sum up the weekend? Boring, but fun. The days are long and
it is tiring to get up early, but the event is actually less serious than expected.
I enjoyed being the delegate of Syria, because I just oppose everyone. No one
really likes Syria which  is really fun but also a challenge, for example when
saying women don’t deserve rights.”

Resolutions, pizza and a lost astronaut.
Friday, the committee of Disarmament and
International Security kicked off with a bunch of
enthusiastic delegates and two curious chairs.
As opposed to other committees and the chair’s
predictions, the DISEC delegates went in from
the start as a pack of hungry hyenas. Within the
first few hours, the shots-fired tally surpassed
every Wild West movie, just by the verbal
harassment of the delegate of Turkey. Although
the tensions were pretty high at certain points,
all delegates displayed great knowledge for the
rules and norms and barely any mistakes were
made. Despite the tensions, there was still room
for lightheartedness, displayed by the great
amount of banter among the delegates and
notes expressing love and a story about a lost
Nigerian astronaut. After debating about the
financing of terrorist organizations, the day was
concluded with the announcement of the topic
of Saturday, which would be drones.
But the chairs had something else in mind…
Saturday afternoon Jort stormed in to the
surprise of many delegates with a crisis that
would change their lives. Although the crisis,
which basically was total escalation in Syria,
nearly incited World War III, the main topic was
pizza. Why pizza you ask? In a collaboration
between the Russian Federation and the United
States of America, the idea was to split Syria.
This even went as far as the delegation of
Somalia making a map that literally sliced up
Syria. Meanwhile, the delegation of Nigeria
delivered an amazing speech about how he
could not get over the fact that there were
Nigerian immigrants on the Swiss borders.
Although it was not really impactful, it most
definitely was memorable. In the end, to great
joy of the newly-introduced delegation of Syria,
the pizza-plan did not go through and the
committee voted for another resolution.
The last day can be concluded as one big
resolution fest. After a rather calm morning
session, the delegates went completely
overboard with the resolutions, in particular
when it was decided that the national the
anthem of the United States should be changed
into an anthem that represents all minorities in
the country. This would have been done by
means of adding Chinese proverbs, the lyrics to
“Despacito” and many other texts into the mix.
Since miracles still exist, the resolution passed
along with one that was about disarming the
entire planet, to guarantee peace. Also, the
committee was reminded that the Nigerian
astronaut was still missing.
With that, the three-day rollercoaster ride that
was DISEC was concluded by a speech from the
chair in which he announced the winners and
thanked the organization. All in all, the weekend
was a lot of fun for the delegates, the chairs
and especially for the journalism team.

“I am very disappointed that the other

time discussing how to fight terrorist
groups such as ISIS, because they are
failing to realize all terrorist groups work
together! To get to ISIS we must first deal

Dear Beneficiary,
I am Dr. Bakare Tunde, the cousin of Nigerian Astronaut, Air Force Major Abacha Tunde. He was
the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6 space station in 1979. He was
on later Soviet space flight Soyuz T-16Z to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989.
He was stranded there in 1990 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. His other Soviet crew
members returned to Earth on the Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by cargo. There have
been occasional Progrez supply flights to keep him going since that time. He is in good humor, but
wants to come home.
In the 38 years since he has been on the station, he has accumulated flight pay and interest
amounting to almost $15,000,000 USD. This is held in a trust at the Lagos National Savings and
Trust Association. If we can obtain access to this money we can place a down payment with the
Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will
cost $3,000,000 USD. In order to access this trust fund we need your assistance.
Consequently, my colleagues and I are willing to transfer the total amount to your account or
subsequent disbursement, since we as civil servants are prohibited by the Code of Conduct
Bureau (Civil Service Laws) from opening and/or operating foreign accounts in our names.
Needless to say, the trust reposed on you at this juncture is enormous. In return, we have agreed
to offer you 20% of the transferred sum, while 10% shall be set aside for incidental expenses
(internal and external) between the parties in the course of the transaction. You will be mandated
to remit the balance of 70% to other accounts in due course.

It is safe to say that the majority of the
dancing that occurred during the UT MUN
happened not during the after party but rather
in the SPECPOL committee. On Friday the
delegate of Israel humoured the committee
with his glamorous rendition of a Katy Perry
song, after using personal pronouns one too
many times. This (un)fortunately failed to teach
the committee a lesson, as the following day
the delegate of China was also reprimanded for
using personal pronouns; and hence
performed a spirited dance to “Everyone Loves
Kung-Fu Fighting.” Surprisingly, the delegate of
China remained unphased by this humiliation
and expressed his gratitude for this
preservation of the Chinese culture. South
Korea, whose appetite for entertainment was
seemingly still unsatisfied, later requested the
delegate of USA to dance the Gangnam Style
upon allegations of not paying attention.
How any progress was made amidst this
barrage of musical numbers remains a
mystery. Whilst constructing a plan for cleaning
and limiting space debris, the formerly absent
delegate of USA less-than-subtly barged into
the room, loudly announcing that “USA is now
present.” The delegate then proceeded to lobby
against regulations for private space
companies, despite admitting that it “does not
take as much responsibility for space debris as
[it] probably should,” as it apparently “has
more pressing issues.” Nevertheless, a
resolution managed to be passed, which
creatively proposed a space project credit
system with the intention of limiting the
number of satellites in orbit. The committee
also succeeded in passing a resolution for long
term radioactive waste management,
highlighting the creation of an International
Scientific Board
to research Nuclear Waste Storage Facilities
globally.
Though there was not previously a large
degree of discord among delegates of the
committee, they were quick to point the finger
at China after the crisis revealed that the ISS
had been severely damaged by space debris
belonging to a government-owned Chinese
telecom satellite. While China urged other
countries not to assume fault, suspicions
remained that the incident was secretly
orchestrated. China was not the only delegate
under fire, however, as Israel also had his turn
in the blaze when all members of the
committee were forced to hand in their
phones thanks to him. All was forgiven in the
end though, as the committee commendably
passed their third resolution which addressed
the pressing matter of surviving
astronaut/cosmonauts/spationaut retrieval
and ISS repair.

The Economic and Social Council certainly
found their feet during this year’s UN meeting.
The weekend started off with some protocol
confusion. Not a moment after the first
resolution had been passed; delegates were
raising their placards suggesting amendments
to be made to the already passed resolution.
Some helpful clarification from the Chair soon
cleared the air and the committee was ready to
tackle the world. Quite literally, as it later
turned out.
       The ECOSOC committee showed pure
passion when fighting for their resolutions and
opinions. This excitement was well managed
however, by the very capable chairs sitting at
the front of the room.  Sanctioned were dealt
out to the committee like an episode of Oprah.
Pictures were drawn, songs were sung and
dances were performed. Delegates even had to
act out famous movie scenes for causing
disruptions to the natural flow of the debate.
These delegates were not handled with care
by any means, but it sure paid off. Respect for
one another was unanimous in the room – a
great way to start any debate.
A dramatic entrance to the room disturbed
the on-going debates about dumping, as a
crisis was unveiled. A meteorite, made of raw
materials with an estimated value of
$900billion, was soon to hit the earth in a part
of the Ocean outside of every nation’s
jurisdiction. This was the tinder the committee
needed to unleash the fire on their tongues.
Controversy and creativity filled the room
as each delegate pitched their idea of what to
do with the imminent collision between sea
and cash. Delegates such as the USA and
Brazil jumped at the opportunity to claim the
largest cuts of the fireball treasure. Others
suggested preventing the collision from taking
place at all – a creative, but perhaps not very
achievable solution. Other still remained true
to their morals and suggested splitting the
values equally across all nations.
       Tensions rose as opinions clashed
between the delegates. Malaysia remained
forceful at one point even saying “Brazil, you
are wasting my time.”
No such debate can run smoothly
however when so much is at stake. Many
insults were thrown around the room, and
flaws in argumentation eagerly pointed out.
Even a discussion regarding the difference
between an asteroid and a meteorite was
enough to fuel more heated arguments as
one delegate exclaimed “if Brazil is looking for
an asteroid, they can go to space and get it.”

Munching on a controversial sandwich of
cheese and jam, the chair of the committee
Quinton Denman expressed his gratitude to
the committee for their thrilling debates and
said he particularly enjoyed handing out
punishments to misbehaving delegates. Many
members of the ECOSOC committee enjoyed
seeing their fellow delegates come out of their
shell and fight for their beliefs. It was certainly
a sight to behold, seeing all the committee
members form alliances against the delegate
of the USA, who kept her ground and bravely
fought for her beliefs.
The committee passed all of their
resolutions with resounding success, and can
certainly be proud of their achievements. At
the very least, they can be proud of the raw
talent they exhibited when being forced to
draw, sing, dance and tell jokes. Hats off, what
a show!

The D&C committee kicked off the event
with a resonating burp released by the Most
Honorable Hokage Super Sayan Utmost
Merciful Senpai Chair Supreme. Aside from
discussing the caucasianization of Donald
Trump and establishing that it is difficult to
pronounce Laos, this committee actually did
have something of value to show from the
three days of debate. Beginning with
discussion of the global opioid crisis, the floor
was relatively divided between two extremes:
with Canada viewing drug users as harmless
to society and seeking to soften drug use
penalties on one hand, and Saudi Arabia
pushing for harsh punishments – based on
the morals and ideology derived from the holy
Al Quran – on the other. In fact, the delegate
of Saudi Arabia stuck so firmly and adamantly
to its extremist ideologies that one couldn’t
quite tell whether it was all just a facade or
not.
Despite the division on the floor, the
committee managed to devise a resolution
that called for the regulation of opioid
production and trade, and the combat of
traffickers. Having successfully passed their
first resolution, the committee proceeded to
deliberate upon the issue of rehabilitation
within prisons. Whilst discussing a solution for
overcrowded prisons and the mixing of petty
and severe criminals, Japan made a subtle jab
at Columbia by suggesting that “people would
not commit petty crimes if everyone were shy
like Japan, rather than the emotional South
America.” Saudi Arabia, as always, had a
quality suggestion, claiming that “the death
penalty is an easy way to solve over-
population in prisons.”
As the day wore on, however, the
committee showed subtle signs of boredom
and fatigue. Suddenly a wild crisis appeared,
and it’s super effective! El Chupacabra, a new,
synthetic, highly-addictive alternative to
cocaine, had seeped through the streets of
Columbia, with threat of leaking into other
countries. All pressure suddenly fell on the
delegate of Columbia, and the delegates
scrambled to take command of the situation.
Despite it being Columbia’s fault that other
nations were now at risk of being infected
with such a toxic drug, all countries showed
their support for Columbia in tackling the
production and sale of the drug, and a
resolution was effectively passed.

  • 7. 5 |     U T M U N        There is no doubt about the diligent adherence to procedure and professionalism displayed by the Security Council committee. This can be attributed not only to the dedicated delegates, but also to the strict supervision of the Co-Chair Christian Bololoi and Chair Madis Lemsalu – who ruled, as one delegate put it, “with a fist of iron and a tie of wood.” Indeed, his firmness was seen upon multiple occasions throughout the event; most notably during one instance when, upon asking permission to visit the restroom, he ruthlessly ordered the delegate of Sweden to “sit the fuck down.”        In truth, the committee was off to a rough start, as some delegates had failed to prepare their position on the topic. Regardless, they powered through; and by the next you would not have been able to tell that this debate was merely a simulation. The delegates were in fact so serious about their roles that South Sudan’s punishment of singing “I Will Survive” for over- use of personal pronouns was not appreciated. The delegates’ sobriety is applauded however, as discussing the topic of the South Sudan civil war is indeed no laughing matter.        Despite the gravity of the debates, there were still a number of notable moments; namely South Sudan blaming other delegates of using “alternative facts,” when accused of corruption and inability to maintain a government and military forces. Italy seemed to have a distorted concept of the value of money, as he once asked the World Bank for unlimited funds. On another occasion he even demanded helicopter transport to resolve his tardiness issues, arguing that the 15 Euro participation fee should have provided a large enough budget to fulfill such a request. Russia adamantly spread Communism with every note, and demonstrated the truth behind the South Sudanese weapons embargo in an Oscar-worthy performance in which he pulled a smuggled banana out of his pocket and aimed it directly at the delegate of South Sudan.        After hour upon hour of heated debate and tactful scheming, the committee pushed their conflicts aside to put forward a resolution. Yet, amidst the joy and relief upon the resolution’s passing, a crisis was sprung on the already spent committee: after multiple failed attempts, North Korea had a successful missile launch testing, putting countries such as the USA in imminent threat of attack. Despite the intense time pressure, the committee powered through the crisis and commendably passed a resolution in merely 60 minutes.

  • 11. 9     |     U T M U N       Despite the brief moment of unity in the room, opinions were quickly divided as the crisis situation unfolded. The world’s average age was too high – something that must be put right. The Russian federation, spearheading an anti- homosexual campaign (or ‘AH!’ for short) blamed the age increase on the homosexual community due to lower birth rates. South Sudan, Syria and Saudi Arabia, amongst others, were clear supports of this motive. Notes flew around the room as alliances were formed. When discussing what to do with the so-called ‘problem of homosexuals’ one delegate responded with “we hang them. Oh, flogging works fine as well.” Notes such as these escalated throughout the room, as certain delegates had clearly left their chill at the door that day.        Whilst many delegates fought for their beliefs with strong argumentation and convincing statistics, the delegate of Syria must be mentioned for his valour attempts. Quoting the Quran in many of his arguments, Syria was forced to apologize many times for forcing his beliefs on the committee. Sanctions such as dancing to ‘apple-pen’ and short bans from the committee came down hard on Syria as he continued to quote the Quran to prove that homosexuality is indeed a mental illness. This was supported by South Sudan who confidently stood up and exclaimed: “There is nothing wrong with homosexuals… apart from the fact they are all mentally ill.” USA was not happy with this remark and threats to cut aid, and impose travel bans to certain countries were thrown around the room. The tension could have been cut with a knife.        Come Saturday morning, the delegates had done their homework and managed to pass a respectable resolution with plenty of time to spare. The calm of the first day was indeed short lived, as the storm was unleashed on the remaining two days of debating. China showed no remorse when proudly stating “I am a woman, and I agree women are less than men” when discussing the treatment and rights of women. Needless to say, a 15-minute ban from the committee (without electronic devices) shortly ensued for the use of personal pronouns. Tut tut China.        The delegates continued to become more outspoken as an unexpected crisis evolved. As a spokesperson barged into the room explaining the nature of the crisis, a fellow delegate was interrupted and stopped in her line of thought. Outrage filled the room as her fellow committee members felt the crisis outburst was rude and unnecessary. Tensions started high as the General Assembly committee gathered for the first time on Friday morning. Many struggled to find their voice and fight for their positions on the prevention of violence in conflict zones. After a stern word from the chair however, the delegates dove into their research and eventually got the ball rolling.
  • 12. 1 0     |     U T M U N        Despite the hot headed debates and rather questionable notes, GA put on a great show. The crisis was described as ‘difficult’ in an interview with the delegate of Syria, due to the contrasting opinions in the room. With a grin however, he quickly added: “It did however generate some furious debating. Great fun.” Working together, and making some major compromises, this committee managed to successfully pass all their resolutions. The crisis was also solved with great professionalism – especially when discussing methods of increasing the world’s ‘baby-making capacity’. Passed resolutions, a solved crisis and some very heated debates – GA definitely had a full house! - Rik Seelens Syria “Three words to sum up the weekend? Boring, but fun. The days are long and it is tiring to get up early, but the event is actually less serious than expected. I enjoyed being the delegate of Syria, because I just oppose everyone. No one really likes Syria which  is really fun but also a challenge, for example when saying women don’t deserve rights.”

  • 14. 1 2     |     U T M U N Resolutions, pizza and a lost astronaut. Friday, the committee of Disarmament and International Security kicked off with a bunch of enthusiastic delegates and two curious chairs. As opposed to other committees and the chair’s predictions, the DISEC delegates went in from the start as a pack of hungry hyenas. Within the first few hours, the shots-fired tally surpassed every Wild West movie, just by the verbal harassment of the delegate of Turkey. Although the tensions were pretty high at certain points, all delegates displayed great knowledge for the rules and norms and barely any mistakes were made. Despite the tensions, there was still room for lightheartedness, displayed by the great amount of banter among the delegates and notes expressing love and a story about a lost Nigerian astronaut. After debating about the financing of terrorist organizations, the day was concluded with the announcement of the topic of Saturday, which would be drones. But the chairs had something else in mind… Saturday afternoon Jort stormed in to the surprise of many delegates with a crisis that would change their lives. Although the crisis, which basically was total escalation in Syria, nearly incited World War III, the main topic was pizza. Why pizza you ask? In a collaboration between the Russian Federation and the United States of America, the idea was to split Syria. This even went as far as the delegation of Somalia making a map that literally sliced up Syria. Meanwhile, the delegation of Nigeria delivered an amazing speech about how he could not get over the fact that there were Nigerian immigrants on the Swiss borders.  Although it was not really impactful, it most definitely was memorable. In the end, to great joy of the newly-introduced delegation of Syria, the pizza-plan did not go through and the committee voted for another resolution. The last day can be concluded as one big resolution fest. After a rather calm morning session, the delegates went completely overboard with the resolutions, in particular when it was decided that the national the anthem of the United States should be changed into an anthem that represents all minorities in the country. This would have been done by means of adding Chinese proverbs, the lyrics to “Despacito” and many other texts into the mix. Since miracles still exist, the resolution passed along with one that was about disarming the entire planet, to guarantee peace. Also, the committee was reminded that the Nigerian astronaut was still missing. With that, the three-day rollercoaster ride that was DISEC was concluded by a speech from the chair in which he announced the winners and thanked the organization. All in all, the weekend was a lot of fun for the delegates, the chairs and especially for the journalism team.
  • 15. 1 3     |     U T M U N - Luka Sculac, Indonesia - Jakob Martin Nigeria “A lot of crazy stuff happened. I sent a note to USA, one of my allies, in which I suggested the option of invading China. As punishment for such an illicit note I had to read it out loud in front of the entire committee.”  “I am very disappointed that the other delegates have disregarded the issue of Boko Haram. We are spending too much time discussing how to fight terrorist groups such as ISIS, because they are failing to realize all terrorist groups work together! To get to ISIS we must first deal with Boko Haram!” From: Indonesia To: USA P.S. Invading China is a suggestion. From: USA To: Russian Federation Stop smiling. So dirty.
  • 16. 1 4     |     U T M U N From: Nigeria To: Switzerland Dear Beneficiary, I am Dr. Bakare Tunde, the cousin of Nigerian Astronaut, Air Force Major Abacha Tunde. He was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6 space station in 1979. He was on later Soviet space flight Soyuz T-16Z to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989. He was stranded there in 1990 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. His other Soviet crew members returned to Earth on the Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by cargo. There have been occasional Progrez supply flights to keep him going since that time. He is in good humor, but wants to come home. In the 38 years since he has been on the station, he has accumulated flight pay and interest amounting to almost $15,000,000 USD. This is held in a trust at the Lagos National Savings and Trust Association. If we can obtain access to this money we can place a down payment with the Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will cost $3,000,000 USD. In order to access this trust fund we need your assistance. Consequently, my colleagues and I are willing to transfer the total amount to your account or subsequent disbursement, since we as civil servants are prohibited by the Code of Conduct Bureau (Civil Service Laws) from opening and/or operating foreign accounts in our names. Needless to say, the trust reposed on you at this juncture is enormous. In return, we have agreed to offer you 20% of the transferred sum, while 10% shall be set aside for incidental expenses (internal and external) between the parties in the course of the transaction. You will be mandated to remit the balance of 70% to other accounts in due course.

  • 18. 1 6   |     U T M U N        It is safe to say that the majority of the dancing that occurred during the UT MUN happened not during the after party but rather in the SPECPOL committee. On Friday the delegate of Israel humoured the committee with his glamorous rendition of a Katy Perry song, after using personal pronouns one too many times. This (un)fortunately failed to teach the committee a lesson, as the following day the delegate of China was also reprimanded for using personal pronouns; and hence performed a spirited dance to “Everyone Loves Kung-Fu Fighting.” Surprisingly, the delegate of China remained unphased by this humiliation and expressed his gratitude for this preservation of the Chinese culture. South Korea, whose appetite for entertainment was seemingly still unsatisfied, later requested the delegate of USA to dance the Gangnam Style upon allegations of not paying attention.        How any progress was made amidst this barrage of musical numbers remains a mystery. Whilst constructing a plan for cleaning and limiting space debris, the formerly absent delegate of USA less-than-subtly barged into the room, loudly announcing that “USA is now present.” The delegate then proceeded to lobby against regulations for private space companies, despite admitting that it “does not take as much responsibility for space debris as [it] probably should,” as it apparently “has more pressing issues.” Nevertheless, a resolution managed to be passed, which creatively proposed a space project credit system with the intention of limiting the number of satellites in orbit. The committee also succeeded in passing a resolution for long term radioactive waste management, highlighting the creation of an International Scientific Board to research Nuclear Waste Storage Facilities globally.        Though there was not previously a large degree of discord among delegates of the committee, they were quick to point the finger at China after the crisis revealed that the ISS had been severely damaged by space debris belonging to a government-owned Chinese telecom satellite. While China urged other countries not to assume fault, suspicions remained that the incident was secretly orchestrated. China was not the only delegate under fire, however, as Israel also had his turn in the blaze when all members of the committee were forced to hand in their phones thanks to him. All was forgiven in the end though, as the committee commendably passed their third resolution which addressed the pressing matter of surviving astronaut/cosmonauts/spationaut retrieval and ISS repair.

Aside from that, I got to perform for the committee not one but two times, first by singing to Katy Perry, then by re-enacting the flying scene from Titanic.” “This has been interesting and fun on a personal level to look into the political stances of Korea. This is my first time experiencing an MUN, and I’ve realised the bureaucracy takes a long time.”

  • 21. 1 9     |     U T M U N        The Economic and Social Council certainly found their feet during this year’s UN meeting. The weekend started off with some protocol confusion. Not a moment after the first resolution had been passed; delegates were raising their placards suggesting amendments to be made to the already passed resolution. Some helpful clarification from the Chair soon cleared the air and the committee was ready to tackle the world. Quite literally, as it later turned out.        The ECOSOC committee showed pure passion when fighting for their resolutions and opinions. This excitement was well managed however, by the very capable chairs sitting at the front of the room.  Sanctioned were dealt out to the committee like an episode of Oprah. Pictures were drawn, songs were sung and dances were performed. Delegates even had to act out famous movie scenes for causing disruptions to the natural flow of the debate. These delegates were not handled with care by any means, but it sure paid off. Respect for one another was unanimous in the room – a great way to start any debate.       A dramatic entrance to the room disturbed the on-going debates about dumping, as a crisis was unveiled. A meteorite, made of raw materials with an estimated value of $900billion, was soon to hit the earth in a part of the Ocean outside of every nation’s jurisdiction. This was the tinder the committee needed to unleash the fire on their tongues.       Controversy and creativity filled the room as each delegate pitched their idea of what to do with the imminent collision between sea and cash. Delegates such as the USA and Brazil jumped at the opportunity to claim the largest cuts of the fireball treasure. Others suggested preventing the collision from taking place at all – a creative, but perhaps not very achievable solution. Other still remained true to their morals and suggested splitting the values equally across all nations.        Tensions rose as opinions clashed between the delegates. Malaysia remained forceful at one point even saying “Brazil, you are wasting my time.”        No such debate can run smoothly however when so much is at stake. Many insults were thrown around the room, and flaws in argumentation eagerly pointed out. Even a discussion regarding the difference between an asteroid and a meteorite was enough to fuel more heated arguments as one delegate exclaimed “if Brazil is looking for an asteroid, they can go to space and get it.”

Many members of the ECOSOC committee enjoyed seeing their fellow delegates come out of their shell and fight for their beliefs. It was certainly a sight to behold, seeing all the committee members form alliances against the delegate of the USA, who kept her ground and bravely fought for her beliefs.        The committee passed all of their resolutions with resounding success, and can certainly be proud of their achievements. At the very least, they can be proud of the raw talent they exhibited when being forced to draw, sing, dance and tell jokes. Hats off, what a show!

  • 25. 2 3     |     U T M U N        The D&C committee kicked off the event with a resonating burp released by the Most Honorable Hokage Super Sayan Utmost Merciful Senpai Chair Supreme. Aside from discussing the caucasianization of Donald Trump and establishing that it is difficult to pronounce Laos, this committee actually did have something of value to show from the three days of debate. Beginning with discussion of the global opioid crisis, the floor was relatively divided between two extremes: with Canada viewing drug users as harmless to society and seeking to soften drug use penalties on one hand, and Saudi Arabia pushing for harsh punishments – based on the morals and ideology derived from the holy Al Quran – on the other. In fact, the delegate of Saudi Arabia stuck so firmly and adamantly to its extremist ideologies that one couldn’t quite tell whether it was all just a facade or not.        Despite the division on the floor, the committee managed to devise a resolution that called for the regulation of opioid production and trade, and the combat of traffickers. Having successfully passed their first resolution, the committee proceeded to deliberate upon the issue of rehabilitation within prisons. Whilst discussing a solution for overcrowded prisons and the mixing of petty and severe criminals, Japan made a subtle jab at Columbia by suggesting that “people would not commit petty crimes if everyone were shy like Japan, rather than the emotional South America.” Saudi Arabia, as always, had a quality suggestion, claiming that “the death penalty is an easy way to solve over- population in prisons.”        As the day wore on, however, the committee showed subtle signs of boredom and fatigue. Suddenly a wild crisis appeared, and it’s super effective! El Chupacabra, a new, synthetic, highly-addictive alternative to cocaine, had seeped through the streets of Columbia, with threat of leaking into other countries. All pressure suddenly fell on the delegate of Columbia, and the delegates scrambled to take command of the situation. Despite it being Columbia’s fault that other nations were now at risk of being infected with such a toxic drug, all countries showed their support for Columbia in tackling the production and sale of the drug, and a resolution was effectively passed.
