Leimyoma are benign tumors that grow
from the muscular wall Myometrium of the
uterus.
4. Leiomyoma are composed of Fibrous tissue
and smooth muscels.
They are the most common uterine tumors.

Unknown
There may be genetic predisposition
Leiomyoma contain estrogen receptors in high
concentration than surrounding myometrium.
They may increase with estrogen therapy and in
pregnency.

They are classified on the basis of their location in uterus.
o Submucosal leiomyoma
o Pedunculated intracavity
o Intramural
o Subserous
o Pedunculated abdominal
o Parasitic
o Intraligmentary
o Cervical

Myometrial contraction to expel fibroid
If goes to pelvic cause nerve compression
and back pain leading to lower extremities

If large may obstruct the nearby organs like
ureters,bladder,rectum.

May cause bowel obstruction
