2. Kinds of Sentences According to Purpose
1. Declarative Sentence
A declarative sentence makes statements or expresses an
opinion. It ends with a period.
Examples:
Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is a disease caused by
SARS-CoV-2 that can affect our respiratory tract such as
sinuses, nose, throat, windpipe and lungs.
People are advised to stay at home, keep a safe distance, wear
face masks, and wash hands more often
3. 2. Interrogative Sentence
An interrogative sentence asks
questions. It ends with a
question mark (?).
Examples:
How does the coronavirus
spread?
Is there more than one strain of
COVID-19?
4. 3. Imperative Sentence
An imperative sentence
makes a request or gives
command. It ends with either
a period or an exclamation
point if it is a strong command.
Examples:
Please maintain proper social
distancing.
Follow the rules!
5. 4. Exclamatory Sentence
An exclamatory sentence expresses happiness, surprise,
anger, fear or other feelings. It ends with an exclamation
point (!).
Examples:
Let us beat COVID-19 together!
You scared me!
How disappointing!
Always capitalize the first word of the sentence and use
the appropriate punctuation
marks
