A note in the margins of a book or a scientific paper, a comment on a manuscript: we are all using annotations to add information to existing physical documents. To offer a similar experience with digital content within the EUDAT Collaborative Data Infrastructure (CDI), we developed a service that allows associating additional information to a file, in a computer-readable format, without changing the file or the data record itself. These digital annotations can thus be searched to organize, retrieve and aggregate files, datasets and documents.
Although B2NOTE is a standalone service, it has been designed to be integrated with the existing EUDAT services. In the first pilot version, B2NOTE allows to annotate files located in B2SHARE. The service is called as a “widget” within the B2SHARE User Interface. B2NOTE allows you to easily and intuitively create three types of annotations: a semantic tag coming from identified ontology repositories (only Bioportal at the moment but we are working toward integrating more vocabularies), a free-text keyword that can be used when you do not find a semantic term in particular and a free-text comment.

Shaun will give an overview to the EUDAT service suite, explaining the key function and role of the different B2 services and how they interconnect. Examples will be given of how each service has been used by communities to explain the nature and scale of the service provision. We show how the B2 Service Suite can be linked to the data lifecycle and the role of each component in any data management planning. By the end of this talk, users should have a good overview of each of the B2 services and how they do, or will, fit together, and how they can be used as a part of a coherent data management plan.

DBpediaNYD - A Silver Standard Benchmark Dataset for Semantic Relatedness in ...Heiko Paulheim
Determining the semantic relatedness (i.e., the strength of a relation) of two resources in DBpedia (or other Linked Data sources) is a problem addressed by quite a few approaches in the recent past. However, there are no large-scale benchmark datasets for comparing such approaches, and it is an open problem to determine which of the approaches work better than others. Furthermore, larget-scale datasets for training machine learning based approaches are not available. DBpediaNYD is a large-scale synthetic silver standard benchmark dataset which contains symmetric and asymmetric similarity values, obtained using a web search engine.

Open government data and related services/applications are quickly growing on the Web. Although most agree that the government data has great potential in solving real world problems, there are still many challenges that must be addressed. This talk will describe several representative domain applications and provide concrete examples of evolving technical challenges remaining. We will show solution paths that have proven useful and make recommendations on the corresponding Semantic Web best practices.
• Scalability. How can we handle(e.g. search and cleanse) the 3,000+ raw/tool datasets, and the additional 300,000+ geo datasets from data.gov?
• Interoperability. Multi-scale open government data came from city governments, state governments, and national governments. How can one compare the GDP of the US and China, and later link to state-level financial data? Open government data covers many domains. How can one associate open government data with domain knowledge to build a cancer prevention application?
• Provenance and quality. How should provenance be leveraged to facilitate high-quality data management interactions (e.g. reuse, mash-up and feedback) between the government and the public?

Title:
Open Sesame: Open Data, Data Liberation and New Opportunities for Libraries
Abstract:
Cities and data producers are quickly embracing Open Data, albeit unevenly. The Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) has been a pioneer in broadening access to data for nearly two decades. This session will examine the relevance of Data Liberation in terms of Open Data and explore how librarians can step up to the plate to make Open Data/Open Government as successful as DLI.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

LF Energy Webinar: Electrical Grid Modelling and Simulation Through PowSyBl -...DanBrown980551
Do you want to learn how to model and simulate an electrical network from scratch in under an hour?
Then welcome to this PowSyBl workshop, hosted by Rte, the French Transmission System Operator (TSO)!
During the webinar, you will discover the PowSyBl ecosystem as well as handle and study an electrical network through an interactive Python notebook.
PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:
- A fully editable and extendable library for grid component modelling;
- Visualization tools to display your network;
- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;
The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
