Use to & Used to
Use use to and used to + the base form of a verb to describe things
that were true in the past but are no longer true in the present.
1. Affirmative: I used to be crazy about candy, but now I don’t
care for it.
2. Negative: She didn’t use to eat cheese, but now she has it all
the time.
3. Interrogative: Did you use to eat a lot of fatty foods?
a. Yes, I did.
b. No, I didn’t.
c. Yes, I used to.
d. No, I didn’t use to.
Use to & Used to
Use use to and used to + the base form of a verb to describe
things that were true in the past but are no longer true in the
present.
1. What did you use to have for breakfast?
a. Eggs and sausage. But not anymore.
2. Why did you use to eat so much?
a. Because I didn’t use to worry about my health.
Use the context to help you complete each sentence
with used to or didn’t use to. Then write two
sentences about yourself.

Be used to
Be used to + a noun/pronoun/-ing form of a verb means to be accustomed to
something. It means “to be familiar with.” It can be used about the past,
present or future.
1. I’m used to the noise now. But at first, it really bothered me.
2. She’s used to the city now and doesn’t get lost any more.
3. I’m a teacher so I’m used to speaking in public.
4. He wasn’t used to the weather there.
5. He wasn’t used to walking so much and his legs hurt after the hike.
6. Are you used to life here?

Get used to
Get used to + a noun/pronoun/-ing form of a verb means to become
accustomed to something. It is used to talk about the process of becoming
familiar with something. It can be used about the past, present or future.
1. You’ll get used to the new menu after a few days.
2. I’m finding this new job hard but I’m sure I’ll get used to it soon.
3. It took my mother years to get used to living in London after moving from
Pakistan.
4. I’m getting used to the noise now. I found it really stressful when I first
moved in.
