This patent application describes a grille for vehicle intake vents that allows air to pass through while stopping projectiles. The grille contains S-shaped louvers that overlap to form circuitous airflow paths. Each louver has a hooked end that creates turbulence in the airflow. The invention improves airflow by placing an insert in the hooked end that fills in the inlet and eliminates turbulence, without reducing the louver's ability to stop projectiles ricocheting through the paths. The insert can be made of foam and covered with a closeout material that projectiles can penetrate.
