A study conducted in 2008 by Paraspara Trust in Bangalore identified 250 urban homeless people living on the streets, including 156 men, 90 women, and 4 transgender individuals. Most were from scheduled castes and had little to no education. They slept outdoors, lacking privacy and safety. Common occupations included daily wage work, rag-picking, and begging. Most earned less than 50 rupees per day and had no savings. Basic facilities like water, toilets, and healthcare were inaccessible or inadequate. Respondents demanded shelter, protection from harassment, work opportunities, and education for children.
