PHP is a server-side scripting language commonly used for web development. It allows code to be embedded within HTML pages and run on the server, which can then access databases, files, and other server resources. PHP code is enclosed within <?php ?> tags and the output replaces the tags in the page sent to the client. Basic PHP setup involves installing the PHP engine on a web server like Apache or IIS.

Community Care Network of Virginia (CCNV) is an organization that represents over 300 healthcare providers across 90 sites in Virginia. CCNV helped these Federally Qualified Health Centers implement electronic medical records (EMRs) to improve efficiency and care quality. CCNV established goals such as facilitating EMR use, collecting data for quality reporting, and establishing a network to share health information between providers and organizations. To meet these goals, CCNV deployed the eClinicalWorks EMR system, established an application service provider to host the EMRs, and continues working on initiatives such as using patient kiosks and telehealth to streamline care.
The document provides best practices for sending mail using PHP. It discusses constructing mail messages using frameworks like Zend and eZ, sending mail via SMTP for better performance compared to mail(), handling bounces and unsubscribes responsibly, and using techniques like VERP to better track bounces. The key aspects covered are mail construction, performance, reliability, responsible sending practices, and bounce processing.
This document provides a summary of steps to secure an Apache and PHP server environment. It discusses locking down the server operating system, hardening Apache configurations, securing PHP settings and development practices, and securely configuring common PHP applications like phpMyAdmin and phpNuke. The key recommendations are to turn off unnecessary services, enable logging and monitoring, lock down filesystem permissions, use modules like mod_security and mod_dosevasive to filter requests, follow secure PHP development best practices, and carefully configure applications following security guidelines.

The document summarizes research using GEMS (Galaxy Evolution from Morphologies and SEDs), a large Hubble Space Telescope imaging survey, to study weak gravitational lensing and galaxy evolution. Key findings include:
1) GEMS detected a weak lensing signal from large scale structure, estimating cosmological parameters σ8 and Ωm.
2) Space-based imaging from GEMS provides higher quality galaxy shapes for weak lensing than ground-based imaging, enabling studies to higher redshift.
3) GEMS imaging allows detailed analysis of galaxy morphologies and their evolution since z=1 through parameters like color, luminosity, size, and merger rates.
The document discusses how a residential gateway can enable and add value to application service provider (ASP) services delivered to homes. It examines two scenarios: the residential gateway as part of the client or as part of the server. While the gateway could potentially execute centrally hosted software and perform tasks using home information, the document concludes there is no simple way to take advantage of the gateway in the ASP hosting system.

It provides advice about focusing on customer satisfaction through early delivery of valuable content. Principles of good design from Dieter Rams are also presented.
To connect to the internet, users must cross the "last mile" using an internet service provider (ISP). When choosing an ISP, it's best to research options using a search engine and review sites. Important factors to consider include connection speed, price, data limits, trial periods, and customer support. Once signed up, use speed test sites to verify the actual connection speed. Download times for a given file size can be calculated based on connection speed in bits per second. Faster speeds are more expensive but allow for quicker downloads and smoother online experiences. Common connection types include DSL, cable, satellite, and fiber optic networks.

Load-balancing web servers Load-balancing web serverswebhostingguy
The document discusses different approaches to load balancing web servers to address issues like scaling performance, tolerating failures, and rolling upgrades. It describes three common solutions: redirecting requests through a front-end server; using round-robin DNS to distribute requests; and employing an intelligent load balancer switch that can distribute requests based on server load and detect failures. Each approach has advantages and disadvantages related to ease of implementation, visibility to users, and ability to handle session state. The document also discusses network designs and protocols involved in load balancing, including TCP connection setup and teardown.
The document compares three methods for consolidating SQL Server databases: 1) multiple databases on a single SQL Server instance, 2) a single database on multiple SQL Server instances, and 3) hypervisor-based virtualization. It finds that consolidating multiple databases onto a single instance has the lowest direct costs but reduces security and manageability. Using multiple instances improves security but has higher resource needs. Hypervisor-based virtualization maintains security while enabling features like high availability, but has higher licensing costs. The document aims to help decide which approach best balances these technical and business factors for a given environment.

1. Free Web-Space Tutorial
As an All West Internet customer you have free web-space available to you. This tutorial will illustrate the following:
• Uploading a web-page to your free web-space (using the WS_FTP ftp client)
• Viewing the uploaded web-page in a web-browser
Uploading a web-page to your free web-space
In order to upload files to your web-space you will need an ftp client. An ftp client is a program that allows you to transfer copies of files from your
computer to another computer (and vice-versa). In this case the computer you will need to transfer files to is the All West web-server (its name is
www.allwest.net). The short tutorial that follows will illustrate how to use the popular WS_FTP client. WS_FTP is a free program that can be
downloaded here (www.download.com).
1. Open the WS_FTP program.
2. Click the New button, then fill in these fields:
o Profile Name --> www.allwest.net
o Host Name/Address --> allwest.net
o Host Type --> Automatic detect
o User ID --> [your internet login name]
o Password --> [your internet login password]
o Click OK
3. You will now see the Local System/Remote Site window. Under Remote Site, click the MkDir button.
2. 4. Type 'webpage' in the text field. Click OK.
5. A 'webpage' folder should now be visible under Remote Site. Double click on the 'webpage' folder.
3. 6. Under Local System navigate (by double clicking on drives/folders) to the folder where you have created your web-page (html files, gif
files, jpg files, etc...).
7. Our example website contains a single html file (named index.html). To transfer it to the web-server we highlight it and then click the
arrow that is pointing right. Note: It is best when transferring files that are made up of text, like html files, to select 'ASCII' mode before
transferring. For other types of files, such as gifs and jpegs, you will want to be set on 'Binary' mode.)
4. 8. A copy of the transferred file should now appear on both sides (Local and Remote). You have successfully uploaded to your web-space.
Viewing the uploaded web-page in a web-browser
Once you have successfully uploaded your webpage file(s) they will be visible to anyone with an internet connection and a web-browser.
1. To view your website open your web-browser to the following address: http://mypages.allwest.com/~your_user_name
