The document discusses the benefits of being able to upload images compared to film photography of the past. It notes that digital cameras and image uploading is a relatively new technology, only becoming widely available in the last 15 years. Uploading images allows photographers to view their photos immediately, make edits and modifications, and share photos online through social media. While the excitement of waiting for developed photos is missed, uploading images provides a better overall photography experience.

1. Upload Images Benefits
Posted by admin On October 16, 2009 6:40 AM
It is amazing to me how much picture taking and sharing has changed in the short twenty-two years that I
have been alive. When I was little, there were big fat cameras that took pretty poor quality pictures and today
you can upload images onto the computer, view every picture you take before you decide whether you want
to hold on to it, and modify any image to your liking.
Even though the fact that we can upload images today is a known technology, being able to upload images has really not been
around for that long. It was not so many years ago that digital cameras did not even exist. I am pretty sure I got my first digital camera
around the ninth grade and that was pretty quickly after they came out. The ability to upload images was a strange, exciting, and
unusual technology.
Before the days when we could upload images, my friends and I had to take a risk every time we took a picture. Then, we would have
to bring our roll of film in its little canister to the closest Walgreens and hope for the best. The excitement that came with bringing film
to Walgreens and waiting impatiently to get pictures back, does not exist for me anymore. I am not going to lie, I do miss that moment
when I would open the picture envelope to see how my photography skills had done for me. Sometimes it would be a huge
disappointment because the lighting would be bad or the shot would not be centered, and more often times than not, someone would
be blinking. So, even though the excitement is not the same, having advancements such as digital cameras and the ability to upload
images definitely is more of a positive than a negative.
Now, when someone blinks you can look at the image immediately and retake the picture. You do not have to wait to get it developed
to find out it was a bad shot after you already paid for it. My friends and I will retake a shot multiple times until all of us are content
with it. After a picture is taken, everybody usually would gather around the camera and try to get a glimpse at the image. Now, it
seems like second nature to be able to do this, but really we have only had the ability to do it for a couple of years.
After we have a bunch of images we like, we can upload images onto our computer. After we upload images, we have the ability to
change and modify them however we would like. If the picture is dark we can brighten it, if someone had red eye we can take it away,
if the photo is off center we can center it. There are so many different options and ways you can edit after you upload images.
I think the biggest reason people today like to upload images is because they can share them with their friends online whenever they
would like. With networks like Facebook and MySpace, people upload images all the time because they want people to see them.
One of the biggest things I like to do when I get on my Facebook account is go through pictures my friends have posted on their page.
If you don?t like a picture of yourself you can untag it and if you really like a photo you can share it.
Even though I miss the excitement of waiting around for photos I have not seen, I think the ability to upload images makes the
pictures we take today so much better because we can always sort through them and edit them before we make prints. The ability to
upload images is a fairly new advancement, but with all the quick advancements in technology, who knows what is going to take over
next.
