The third meeting of 100 Women Who Care about Long Island resulted in over $6,000 being donated to Pal-O-Mine Equestrian. Pal-O-Mine's mission is to provide therapeutic equine programs to help children and adults with disabilities, those abused or neglected, the military, and the economically compromised. A member gave a nomination speech explaining how the donation would help Pal-O-Mine's program for battered women. As a group, the 100 Women Who Care are able to donate more and make a larger impact than individuals can alone. New partnership at Christmas
We’re delighted to announce that we are now officially partnered with the New Testament Assembly in Tooting (NTA) in their long-established programme to deliver food hampers to people in Wandsworth at Christmas.
The Christmas Hamper Project was launched back in December 2008, by the late Amy Rose Powell MBE from the Women 2 Women ministry. She was concerned about members of the NTA Tooting Church, and people in the wider community, who were experiencing difficult times.
Responding to hardship
The project provides a box of food as a gift at Christmas to individuals or families in need – whatever their religious persuasion or ethnicity. Most of the boxes go to single parents, pensioners and households on a low income. The hampers – 2,914 of them in the past eight years – are delivered individually or via community groups.
The scriptural reference for the project is taken from Matthew 25:35-46:
“…for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me…
“Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”
PCU sees this project as an important element of our corporate social responsibility programme. Corporate social responsibility is about contributing to the improvement of the community we are part of in some substantial way – and doing so in line with our ethics and values.
We view the local Christmas hamper programme as an essential local social service to individuals and families in desperate need at Christmas and we are privileged to take part in this.

The DelURide is a 2,000+ mile charity bike ride from DelFest in Maryland to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado organized by Jeffrey Steckler and Charlie Wildman to raise funds for the Chase Your Dreams Foundation, a non-profit that helps people with disabilities. The ride aims to raise $20,000 for the foundation through corporate sponsors and individual donors. The organizers have assembled an advisory board of professionals to help plan and promote the event.

Houston, TX – January 14, 2010 – A newly formed, local coalition is set to make a worldwide impact beginning this weekend when Sapphire Jule King sets out on a two- year journey around the United States. During the journey, King will collect audio, visual, and written stories from hundreds of families that symbolize and embody the value of strong families. Believing the saying that a family that prays together stays together, King founded the International Freedom Coalition (IFC) in an effort to eradicate child maltreatment worldwide. IFC is a nonprofit, 501c3 organization formed in 2009 after several local social entrepreneurs expressed a need for a collaborative effort in tackling social issues. One major component of the walk is that supporters are asked to send a pair of their lightly used or new shoes for King to use in towns and cities she will pass through -- “Walk a Week in Your Shoes.” The journey will kick off at 6:30a.m., Friday, Jan. 15 at La Porte’s Sylvan Beach Park Pavilion. Supporters, volunteers, and the general public are encouraged to attend.
