Lexi Taylor is developing initial ideas for an independent film exploring mental health themes. The working titles consider issues like emptiness, hunger, and isolation. Lexi aims to tackle eating disorders and feelings of being alone in an interpretive, non-conventional style. Rather than a clear plot, the film may follow a girl who hides from society due to feeling like a "freak," shown through a sequence of long shots. Alternatively, it could portray different people's relationships with food to both educate viewers and avoid stigmatizing those with eating disorders.

3. Genre Ideas
I want my film to potentially be an art house / indie style, one where there is no certain plot but like an
interpretive dance of a film. For themes I definitely want to tackle mental health, so potentially, if the film
was called ‘Hungry’ it could be about teenage struggles with food. However ‘the appetite of emptiness’
could deal with both eating disorders and a more emotional feeling of being empty. I, personally associate
with this as it deals with personal issues that I have had in the past, that don’t get the best representation
in media these days as it is normally stereotyped or normalised. I also would potentially like to do a
psychological horror or drama to highlight how I used to feel and still do, as certain mental health issues
can be scary to deal with alone. Conventionally neither genres have tropes, apart from psychological
horrors typically make the viewers pretty uncomfortable and deals with topics society often likes to ignore.
I too want to bring out issues that are ignored but not to the point of where it is uncomfortable,as I don’t my
audience to think that they are strange or weird. Instead i want to show that they are normal and people
will feel alienated and alone.
5. Plot Ideas
I don’t think that I genuinely want a plot for the film, instead i want a sequence of long shots,
these themselves tell the story of a girl who feels out of place and lonely outside. She feels
like a freak of nature so hides her face and wears black, disappearing and disappearing from
places as she wishes because at the end of the day no one will remember or notice her if
she isn’t there. The character is probably not going to be named, but she might be if I decide
to not run with agoraphobia. The film could also be about hunger and the feeling of dealing
with an eating disorder and a hatred or addiction to food, food has a lot of negative
connotations with different people so I could follow many different stories about different
people and their relationships with food. It could also show that eating disorders aren’t just
as deep as anorexia, it is a lot more deeper than that and there are more, so I want to both
educate people and show eating disorders in a light that doesn’t alienate or make fun of
people with them as they are are extremely serious.
