For international students, the transition from high school in your home country to a university

1. The University of Central Florida’s
Global Achievement Academy (GAA)
students should read these terms and
conditions carefully prior to submitting
an application. In addition to these terms
and conditions, as students at UCF, all
GAA students are bound by the rules and
regulations governing the University of
Central Florida (UCF), as those may be
amended from time to time. The most re-
cent UCF rules can be found at ucf.edu.
2. GAA reserves the right to amend
these terms and conditions from time to
time. Similarly, UCF reserves the right
to amend its terms and conditions from
time to time. At all times, students will
be required to comply with the then-cur-
rent terms and conditions. UCF’s current
terms and conditions may be found at
globalucf.com.
3. Application: Students may apply
to the GAA, GAA Prep (a pre-sessional
English program) or for direct admis-
sion to UCF. If you decide to apply to
any of these three programs, be sure to
use the application that is specific to the
program you select. Each application
contains terms and conditions govern-
ing the specific program, and students
acknowledge by submitting this appli-
cation that they agree to the terms and
conditions of the respective program.

4. Students who are admitted to the
GAA will receive a written offer letter
with details on accepting the offer, pay-
ing the program deposit and arriving on
campus.
5. Tuition, fees and accommodation
payment: Following payment of the
deposit, students must pay the remain-
ing outstanding balance no less than one
week prior to the start date of the pro-
gram. GAA has the right to amend prices
due to university actions, tax increases,
governmental actions or other events
beyond our control.
6. Accommodations: All GAA students
are required to commit to a three-term
RESIDENCE in a UCF residential hall
and pay in full for these accommoda-
tions by the first day of classes. All GAA
students’ housing commitments run
three-terms unless otherwise noted.
Students needing to cancel their housing
agreement prior to published move-in
date are eligible for a full refund less a
$100 change fee. Students needing to
cancel their housing agreement up to 10
days after published move-in date are
eligible for a full refund less a $300
change fee. Students needing to cancel
their housing agreement more than 10
days after the published move-in date
are not eligible for a refund. Once GAA
students complete the three-term
accommodation requirement, they
may participate in UCF’s housing
lottery system or find alternative off-
campus housing.
7. Health insurance: All international
students studying at UCF are required
to be covered by health insurance, which
meets the U.S. government’s visa require-
ments, state of Florida requirements and
UCF requirements.
a. At the time of their application, stu-
dents are required to purchase coverage
from a GAA-designated health plan as a
condition of enrollment.
b. Prior to orientation, all students
must have completed the UCF Health
Services Immunization Form docu-
menting proof of immunity to measles
(rubeola), German measles (rubella) and
mumps and either proof of immuniza-
tion against meningitis and hepatitis B,
or a signed waiver declining these two
vaccines. Mandatory immunization
forms may be obtained through the
UCF Health Services website hs.ucf.
edu/immunizations.html. Students
must have immunization documenta-
tion to live on campus and prior to class
start date.
8. Airport transfers: Requests for air-
port transfer should be made at least two
weeks in advance. GAA cannot guarantee
a reservation for a request made less
than two weeks in advance. However,
staff will make every attempt to accom-
modate late requests. In the event that
a flight is cancelled or delayed, students
must call the emergency telephone num-
ber published in the Student Handbook to
inform GAA’s staff of the new arrival date
and time. Please see Section 22 for the
airport transfer cancellation policy.
9. Cancellation, change, curtailment
or withdrawal: Students who cancel
their GAA course prior to arrival on
UCF’s campus may request a full refund
of deposit, tuition and fees. Students
will only be eligible for a refund if they
submit documentation of visa denial
with written notification to the GAA
prior to the course start date. After the
start of the GAA program orientation,
students may be eligible for a partial
refund (25 percent) of tuition prior to
the end of the fourth week of classes.
After attending all or part of the fifth
week of classes, there will be no refunds
absent exceptional circumstances.
10. Exceptional circumstances: Refunds
for exceptional circumstances may
be granted on a very limited case-by-
case basis by the GAA Office of Academic
Services. Up to 100% of tuition and
registration fees are refundable if due
to circumstances determined by GAA
to be exceptional, including, but not
limited to sickness, death, involuntary
call to military service or university
administrative error.
11. Public holidays, vacation and ab-
sences: Classes are usually not held on
public holidays, and most school facili-
ties will be closed. GAA will not make
reimbursements for classes not offered.
12. Absences: F-1 students must
comply with all applicable United States
Citizenship and Immigration Services
regulations related to study on a student
visa at UCF, including attendance
requirements. Failure to meet atten-
dance requirements may lead to
penalties, including loss of immigration
status. Any student who is absent during
the program or loses immigration status
due to absences will not be eligible for a
refund for time missed.
13. Academic criteria: Students are
accepted into the GAA with the strict
understanding that progression through
the GAA and successful completion of
any program will require satisfactory
attendance and successful attainment of
specified progression grades. Students
who do not meet the criteria for success-
ful completion will not be allowed to pro-
ceed. Students may be offered advice on
suitable alternative options, which may
or may not include retaking courses or
repeating certain courses. These alterna-
tive options may involve additional time
and costs, including tuition and accom-
modation fees.
14. Academic resources: All books and
learning materials must be purchased by
GAA students upon arrival at UCF.
15. Student conduct: All GAA students
are required to follow UCF policies,
rules, regulations and the UCF Golden
Rule. Any student who commits a crimi-
nal offense, violates campus rules, has
poor attendance or fails to meet program
requirements may be expelled or sus-
pended. No refund will be given in cases
of expulsion. The UCF Code of Student
Conduct provides a framework of stan-
dard acceptable behavior for students.
Students are responsible for understand-
ing and complying with this Code. The
Code of Student Conduct is available on
the UCF website. All students study-
ing at UCF have the right to be treated
with respect and courtesy by UCF staff
and fellow students in an environment
free from harassment and conducive to
learning. UCF expects GAA students to
abide by the Code of Conduct by accept-
ing responsibility for your behavior and
conducting yourself in a professional
manner at all times, treating fellow stu-
dents and staff with respect, honesty
and courtesy.
16. Refunds: GAA will only make
refunds in U.S. dollars, minus any bank
transfer or processing fees, and
will make such refunds in the manner
in which GAA was originally paid and to
the account of the party or parties who
made such payment(s). All refunds will
be made to eligible parties within 45 days
of written notice.
17. Grievance procedures, appeals
or complaints: Students must follow
the policy and procedures for dealing
with student complaints, grievances
and appeals in a constructive and
timely manner.
18. Academic performance: The UCF
Academic Regulations Policy outlines
the required standards for academic
performance and maintaining good
academic standing. This policy can be
found at catalog.ucf.edu/policies. To
continue in the GAA, students must also
be in compliance with the GAA academic
standards and progression requirements,
which can be found at globalucf.com.
19. Photography, filming and sound
recording: GAA or its representatives
may arrange to photograph or shoot
video footage of students for promotion-
al or commercial purposes and publish
or broadcast the results in all forms of
media. Any student who does not wish
to participate should advise us in writing
at the time of enrollment and state at
the time of the photographing or video
shooting the wish not to participate.
By accepting these terms and condi-
tions, any student who does not follow
the above opt-out requirements gives
consent to the use of these photographs
or video footage without further consent
or notifications.
20. Force majeure: UCF and the GAA
will not be liable in cases where UCF
and/or GAA is unable to fulfill any
services because of fire, natural disaster,
national emergency, act of government,
acts of war or terrorism, failure of sup-
pliers or subcontractors, labor disputes
or any other reasons which are beyond
UCF’s or GAA’s control.
21. Student F-1 visa holders: F-1 visa
holders are required to provide UCF
with a current residential address and
telephone number at all times. Students
who fail to meet attendance require-
ments, continue their enrollment or
maintain satisfactory academic progress
will be reported to the U.S. Department
of Homeland Security (DHS). Informa-
tion collected by UCF and the GAA
which personally identifies a student and
information regarding a student’s course
progress may be shared with DHS, state
and accrediting agencies, designated
authorities, the student’s parent(s) or
guardian(s), UCF and GAA staff, contrac-
tors and representatives. This informa-
tion may include personal and contact
details, course enrollment details and
changes, and circumstances of any sus-
pected breach by the student of any UCF
or GAA policies and/or any DHS rules or
Regulations.
22. Cancellation: “Cancellation Period”
refers to the period up to the start date
of the first course you are attending.
Cancellations must be made during
the Cancellation Period in writing and,
provided the student never attends, 100
percent of the tuition and accommoda-
tion (SUBJECT TO SECTION 6) fees will
be refunded. In all cases, the courier fee
(if utilized), enrollment fee and any other
service charges (e.g., airport transfer fee,
medical insurance, campus fee, program
supplement fee, etc.) are nonrefundable.
23. Liability: The liability of the GAA,
its operator and its group companies,
their directors, officers, employees,
affiliates, agents and partners with
respect to losses arising from negligence
(except where such liability cannot be
excluded as a matter of law), breach of
contract or otherwise will be limited
in all circumstances to the full amount
paid to UCF, GAA or the relevant group
company by the relevant student for the
particular program. Such companies and
persons will in no circumstances have
any liability for indirect or consequential
losses or damages. Any dispute, claim or
other matter arising will be subject to the
jurisdiction and laws of the United States
of America.
24. In accordance with the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act of
1974 (FERPA), the undersigned stu-
dent hereby permits UCF to disclose
personally identifiable information,
including educational records, financial
information, disciplinary records and
attendance records to the GAA, its opera-
tor, Shorelight-Stars, LLC, its parent
Shorelight Education, LLC, and their
group companies (the “Operator”). The
undersigned hereby also grants UCF and
the GAA Operator permission to provide
the student’s parent(s), guardian(s) and
recruiter(s) with information pertaining
to their application, academic progress,
results and attendance. These permis-
sions will remain in effect during the
undersigned student’s tenure at GAA
and UCF. Students wishing to revoke this
release may do so at any time by submit-
ting a written request to the Global UCF
Academic Director.
