Bangladesh remains one of the leading contributors of troops to UN peacekeeping missions, with over 1,63,887 troops contributed across 54 missions in 8 countries. More than 900 female peacekeepers from Bangladesh have participated in UN operations. While 166 Bangladeshi peacekeepers have lost their lives serving in UN peacekeeping, Bangladesh has a long history of support to peacekeeping since first serving in 1988, with achievements like having Bangla declared an official language in Sierra Leone.
