2. GARMENT FINISHING
There are three application methods of garment finishing:
• Dip process
• Tumbling process
• Pad-Dry-Cure method
3. GARMENT FINISHING-DIP DYE PROCESS
Dip process
• Dip dye (also known as "tip dyeing") is a garment coloring style that involves dipping the ends of the
garment into dye. The dye used can be either a naturally colored dye or a bright colored dye, the latter
being the more popular choice.
• Dip dyeing is a special technique used in dyeing fabric. It takes a little more effort than regular dyeing,
because must hold the fabric as opposed to just plunking it in.
4. DIP DYEING PROCESS
Dip process
• In the first step, the dry garments are impregnated with the finishing solution.
• The garments may be agitated briefly in the solution, or a bundle of the garments may be
dipped in the finishing solution.
• The important factor is that the garments thoroughly saturated with the finish. A typical
finish will contain a wetting agent, a catalyst and a softener.
• After the garments are saturated with the finish, they are extracted to about 50-70% wet
pick up.
6. DIP DYEING PROCESS
Dip process-Advantages
• The garment dip process has some advantages over the conventional post method.
• The most recognizable benefit is a much softer hand.
• Other advantages of this process include better inventory control, better casual apparel, and
the flexibility of performing such operations as stone washing and other prior to wrinkle-
resistant treatment.
7. TUMBLING PROCESS
• In this process the garment are placed (inside out) into a machine with sealed (not perforated)
cylinder and application of recipe by either pumping or spraying.
• The drum is turned for 20 min there should not be excessive dripping of chemicals from the garment.
If so, more tumbling time is allowed.
• This method is being used more and more due to the fact that there is no wastage of chemicals.
• After saturation, the garments are hydro extracted tumble dry at 70° C to 10—20 % pick up moisture
content.
• The iron and steam press the garments to remove/set creases. Cure at 150—160° C for 8 -10 mins.
9. PAD – DRY – CURE METHOD
Pad – dry – cure method
• The process is accomplished by padding fabric through a dye chemical solution of the three
components to a wet pickup of about 75%, drying at moderate temperature, and curing at an elevated
temperature.
• Drying is a mass transfer process consisting of the removal of water or another solvent by evaporation
from a solid, semi-solid or liquid.
• Curing is a process during which a chemical reaction or physical action takes place, resulting in a
harder, tougher or more stable linkage or substance.
11. STONE WASHING MACHINES
• These are machines designed specifically for the finishing of denim jeans by the stone
washing process.
• Gold Serial Models G1 420 LS, G1 360 LS AND G1 250 LS OF Tonello, ltay.
12. STONE WASHING MACHINES
• Stone washing is a textile manufacturing process used to give a newly manufactured cloth garment
a worn-in (or worn-out) appearance.
• Stone-washing also helps to increase the softness and flexibility of stiff and rigid fabrics such as
canvas and denim.
• The process uses large stones to roughen up the fabric being processed. The garments are placed in
a large horizontal industrial clothes washer that is also filled with large stones.
• As the wash cylinder rotates, the cloth fibers are repeatedly pounded and beaten as the tumbling
stones ride up the paddles inside the drum and fall back down onto the fabric.
13. TUMBLE DRYER MACHINE
• A clothes dryer, tumble dryer, drying machine or dryer is a powered household appliance
that is used to remove moisture from a load of clothing and other textiles, usually shortly after
they are washed in a washing machine.
• Clothes may also be dried by natural evaporation and, if available, sunlight on an outdoor
or indoor clothes lines or clothes horse.
• Many dryers consist of a rotating drum called a "tumbler" through which heated air is
circulated to evaporate the moisture, while the tumbler is rotated to maintain air space between
the articles.
14. TUMBLE DRYER MACHINE
• Using these machines may cause clothes to shrink or become less soft (due to loss of short
soft fibers/lint).
• A simpler non-rotating machine called a "drying cabinet" may be used for delicate fabrics
and other items not suitable for a tumble dryer.
15. USED LOOK FINISHING MACHINES
Used look finishing machine
• These machines are for finishing jeans by brushing, to give them "used look" using
sandblasting or chemicals.
There are 2 types of such finishing lines:
• 1. Automatic
• 2. Manual
16. USED LOOK FINISHING MACHINES
Automatic brush robot E4
• System is equipped with 4 brushes and adjustable rotation speed with parameters on video,
installed on 2 saddles, each of which moves on six -independent axes.
• system can operate either with all the brushes simultaneously, when there are large areas to
be abraded or with just 2 brushes, one on the front and one on the back of the garment, for
good results, when trimming or brushing of particularly small areas on jeans.
17. USED LOOK FINISHING MACHINES
Manual ET Junior
• These are manual brushing equipment for jeans, shirts and jackets. ET Junior and ET
Easy have both horizontal and vertical versions.
• The electric driven tools require 0.37 Kw power, and the operating pressure is at 7 bars.

new steaming techniques to give fabrics from natural fibres an excellent finish.
• Features of the finishers given below:
• Even the most delicate fabrics can pass through this machine almost without touching,
because of the imaginative construction of the air rollers, shaped from flexible wool fabric
layers to adapt perfectly to garment being finished.
• Steam nozzles were specially developed for natural fibres. These are in 2 rows of 4 and can
be adjusted to bring precise amount of steam on to the garment, thus guaranteeing a deep
action with excellent results even on natural fibres.
34. GARMENT FINISHERS-TUNNEL FINISHERS
Tunnel finishers
• Each finishing chamber can be set at its own temperature to suit each material. The first
chamber is normally set at a high temperature and the last chamber at a low temperature.
• The advantages are:
1.Garments leave the tunnel cool and stabilized.
2. Packing can be immediate for transportation and new technique 'Pre-finish', without
letting off steam, is both economic and eco-friendly. The steam-air mix is returned to the
pre-finish phase. No steam is allowed to escape from finisher but will be suctioned away.
