1. Abstract
It seems that many students don’t much more than similes and metaphors when it comes
to learning about figurative language and stylistic devices. It became the goal of this unit to
expand the understanding of what these literary tools are and how they influence the
interpretation of a text, film, television show, or song. To expand their understanding of such
tools is to open creative possibilities, and it encourages students to have fun with language
because they will not see it as stuffy academic papers. With these assignments, I want to prove
that students can find this in their own lives and see that is enables fun communication. Students
will find that there is more to school that be concise, sensible, and dull. The goal is to breathe life
into the language.
