literature
● Produce clear and coherent writing for task, purpose and audience
● Write arguments to support claims in analysis
● Draw Evidence from literature to support analysis
● Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text
including figurative, connotative and technical meanings
Essential Question:
● Are there universal themes in literature that are of interest or concern to all
cultures and societies?
● What are the characteristics or elements that cause a piece of literature to
endure?
● Where does the meaning of a text reside? Within the text, within the reader, or
in the transaction that occurs between them?
● Why is it important for people and cultures to construct narratives about their
experience?
● In a culture where we are bombarded with ideas and images of “what we
should be,” how does one form an identity that remains true and authentic for
her/himself?
● How do individuals deal with internal struggles?
● How does our past and present shape our identity?
● What ideas are worth standing up for and defending?
● How does discovering the truth affect us?
