Lesson 1-
How can we communicate and
practice safety in the science
lab?

I can communicate rules
that should be followed as a
scientist.
• We are going to look at our Science Safety rules!
• You will work in groups and each group will be assigned
a rule
• You will draw the rule being followed on a poster
• Then your group will make up a Short skit play to act out
an example of NOT FOLLOWING the rule and an
example of following the rule
• You will be presenting so make sure you practice!
• What other science safety rules could be
added to this list?
• Work together as a group to add some
more safety rules to the list!

Lesson 2:
How do structures of plants help
them survive in their habitats?
STATEME
NT
I can observe the external
structures of a plant and
generate questions about
them.
I went to the grocery store yesterday and
wandered through the product section. I
noticed all sorts of plants for sale. Some
of them we eat, like fruits and veggies.
But I was looking for flowers to take to
my mother when I pick her up to take
her out for her birthday dinner. I stopped
and picked up a few bunches.
Why do flowers
have different
parts?
• I am going to show each group a flower
• You will want to look closely and touch it carefully!
• You will make observations of the parts of the whole flower in
your journal or notebook.
• Share your observations or traits with the group
• Create a list of what you all had in common?
• Create a list of questions your group has about the parts of the
flower!
Flowers have many parts
including stems, leaves, and
petals.
Petals are usually brightly
colored and different flowers
have different shaped and
colored petals.
• Why do flowers have petals?
• What are all of the small parts
within the flower?
• Why are leaves green?
How do the structures of
plants help them survive in
their habitats?
LESSON 3:
STATEMENT
I can collect and
share evidence to
support an argument
about the structures of
carnivorous plants.
I was so interested in the Venus Flytrap that my
mother went to her home library
And handed me a book called The World’s Most
Awesome Carnivorous Plants. In it were
Cool facts about carnivorous plants from around
the world. I looked through it while I
Waited for her to finish getting ready for dinner.
How do specific
carnivorous plants
capture and digest
prey?
• You will be going to be working in groups!
• Your group will choose one carnivorous plant from the choices!
• Venus Flytrap
• Pitcher Plant
• Sundew Plant
• Bladderwort
• You will need to research some facts about that plant!
• THREE FACTS on how your plant is the best of catching a prey!
The Most best Carnivorous plant
from the choices that is great at
catching Prey is Venus Flytrap!
- It has two hinged lobes at the
end of each leaf.
- The lobes shut the prey out
when it comes into contact.
• Why was the Venus Flytrap
better than the other plants?
• Can the Venus Flytrap survive
without water?
• What’s the difference between
all plants?
