Everyday we are surrounded by different kinds of materials.

3. MATERIALS
Do you have any idea what they are made of?
Paper. We get paper from wood.
We write on paper.
Glass. Glass is smooth and
transparent. Be careful, it breaks
very easily!

Metal is a good conductor of electricity and
heat. It is a hard material.
Wood is hard. Tables and
chairs are made of wood.
5. FLOATING OR SINKING?
Some materials float while others
Glass sinks in the water. sink.
Paper floats in the water. After a while it disappears.
Metal sinks in the water.
Wood floats in the water.
6. CLOTHES
We can make clothes from wool, cotton and silk.
We get cotton from plants. It keeps us cool in the summer.
We get wool from sheep. It keeps us warm in the
winter.

Silk is a natural protein fibre. It comes
from the cocoons of the larvae
before they grow into butterflies.
8. HEAT, WARM AND COOL
Heat is a kind of energy that raises the
temperature of things.
For example when we heat chocolate it
melts (it turns into a liquid).

If we heat something then it goes
from a solid to a liquid.
If we cool something the opposite
happens. It goes from a liquid to
a solid.
Ice-cream is an example.
Mmm...….delicious!
We put ice-cream in the freezer and it freezes.
