Stolen Focus Why You Can't Pay Attention.pdfmuzondiwa
In our modern world, distractions abound. Whether it's the constant notifications from our phones, the temptation of social media, or the never-ending to-do list, it can be challenging to maintain our focus and concentration. This growing problem of attention deficit is the subject of "Lost Focus: Why You Can't Pay Attention," a comprehensive guide that explores the causes and solutions to this increasingly prevalent issue.
At the heart of the problem of attention deficit is the human brain. The author of "Lost Focus" explains that our brains are not designed to handle the constant stream of information and distractions that we face in our daily lives. Our brains evolved to be highly attuned to our environment, constantly scanning for potential threats and opportunities. In our modern world, however, this constant scanning can become overwhelming, leading to a reduced ability to focus and concentrate.
One of the main culprits of attention deficit is technology. The rise of smartphones and social media has made it easier than ever to stay connected and informed, but it has also made it more difficult to disconnect and focus. The constant stream of notifications and updates can be addictive, leading to a compulsion to check our phones even when we should be focusing on other tasks.
The author of "Lost Focus" also points out that the modern fast-paced lifestyle is a major contributor to attention deficit. We live in a world where we are expected to be constantly productive and efficient, leaving little time for rest and relaxation. This can lead to a chronic state of stress, which has been shown to impair cognitive function and reduce our ability to focus and concentrate.
In addition to external factors like technology and lifestyle, attention deficit can also have biological and physiological causes. The author of "Lost Focus" explains that genetics, brain chemistry, and sleep deprivation can all contribute to attention deficit. For example, some people may be more predisposed to attention deficit due to their genetic makeup, while others may have imbalances in brain chemicals that affect their ability to focus. Sleep deprivation, a common problem in our modern world, can also have a significant impact on our cognitive function and attention span.
So what can we do to combat attention deficit? "Lost Focus" provides a wealth of practical tips and techniques for enhancing focus and concentration. One of the key strategies is mindfulness practices, such as meditation and deep breathing. By learning to focus on the present moment and quiet our minds, we can improve our ability to concentrate and reduce distractions.
Another technique for improving focus and concentration is through brain exercises. The author of "Lost Focus" recommends activities like Sudoku and crossword puzzles, which can help to strengthen neural connections and improve cognitive function. Physical exercise, such as yoga or jogging, can also be an effective way to improve focus

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

7. Example
• Today more people are overweight than ever
before. What in your opinion are the primary
causes of this? What are the main effects of
this epidemic?
8. Nowadays the number of overweight people is constantly increasing. This essay will
discuss the main reasons of this epidemic and then describe the possible effects of the
problem.
In my opinion, the foremost causes of obesity are inactive lifestyle and unhealthy eating
habits. Today more and more people rely on cars instead of walking, have less physical
demands at work and prefer inactive leisure activities. This results in burning less calories and
gaining weight. Moreover, the problem is accentuated by the growing number of people, who
eat irregularly and consume large portions of high-calorie food. For example, about 50% of the
adult population in Europe with so-called disordered eating suffer from obesity.
The possible effects of this problem include physical health problems and loss of
productivity. First of all, obesity results in incorrect functioning of the human body and
contributes to the risk of developing some chronic illnesses. For example, as body fat
percentage increases, the person’s metabolism worsens, which in turn may result in diabetes or
heart diseases. Secondly, overweight people are very unhealthy and often suffer from stress
and tiredness. This lessens their work capacity and results in lower productivity. For example, it
has been proven that an obese person needs to put more effort to complete some task than a
person with normal weight.
To sum up, obesity is a big problem that affects a lot of people nowadays. It’s mainly
caused by inactive lifestyle and eating disorders and results in severe health problems and
loss of productivity.
