Franchised intellectual property (IP) refers to characters or brands owned by one company but licensed for use by another, such as FIFA games licensing team names and players. Original IP like Metal Gear Solid can also license content from other games. Franchise series increasingly feature characters from other companies through licensing, such as the Super Smash Bros. games including Sonic the Hedgehog and Snake in addition to Nintendo characters, building an extended series across consoles.

1. Franchised IP
‘To give right or privilege’ Meaning, when a company
owns rights to a named character or brand, that it can
be used again by a different company/franchise, such
as Football games like FIFA which have franchised IP
over team names and player names, or ‘The X-Men’
which was originally a combination of different
characters from different marvel shows combined, the
show later became a game due to its popularity
through generations

over some scenes from other kinds of games such as

2. Serialized Original IP
Is a term referring to a number of distinct types of
creations of the mind for which a set of exclusive rights
are recognized—and the corresponding fields of law.
Franchises such as ‘Super Smash Bros Brawl’ By
Nintendo, originally had all Nintendo characters
features but since brawl ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ from
Sega and ‘Snake’ from Konami, they have been using
this to build on a series from ‘Super smash bros’ ‘Super
Smash Bros Melee’ and now ‘Super Smash bros Brawl’
soon creating a new game on the WiiU.
