 Theatre utilizes many other art forms.
 The experience of live performance is
special.
 Theatre can tell stories in a way no other art
form can.

program for a production of Great
Expectations at SUNY Plattsburg. The
actors are listed on the left; production
staff are listed on the right. All these
people had a hand in creating this piece
of theatre.

4. The audience is the other active
participant in the creation of theatre.
Without the audience, it’s just rehearsal!

5.  Set, costume, and lighting designers are visual
artists, utilizing many principles and techniques
a painter, architect, or sculptor would use.
 Sound designers use music to create a mood or
punctuate moments.
 Most musical theatre productions use various
genres of dance.
