UNIMARC is a bibliographic format developed by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions in 1977 to facilitate the international exchange of bibliographic records between national libraries. It aims to allow libraries to share cataloging data in a machine-readable format. In 1991, UNIMARC published guidelines for authority records to control names, subjects and series.
