This document provides an overview and introduction to UGAIM, an open-source modular server platform for creating and managing OpenSimulator grids. UGAIM is programmed in PHP using the CodeIgniter framework, allowing it to be deployed on most PHP-compatible web servers. It aims to provide a more efficient and scalable alternative to existing OpenSimulator server implementations by utilizing a modular design that leverages standard web server capabilities and allows horizontal scaling. Key features highlighted include a customizable interface, easy installation and management directly through a web browser, and leveraging existing PHP hosting solutions.

libvirt is an important piece of the overall open source virtualization management puzzle. Many of the open source virtualization management applications that users enjoy are based on libvirt, since it provides a normalized API for managing heterogeneous hypervisors. For Xen to enjoy this greater ecosystem of open source virtualization tools, it must be well supported and maintained in libvirt.
This presentation will give a basic overview of libvirt, discuss the latest status of the libvirt libxenlight driver (also known as the libxl driver), and discuss future improvements planned for the driver.
This presentation discusses using the libvirt virtualization API for controlling bhyve virtual machines under FreeBSD.

Singularity: The Inner Workings of Securely Running User Containers on HPC Sy...inside-BigData.com
“Singularity is an open source container solution being developed specifically for HPC environments. With Singularity, HPC users can safely bring their own execution environments to the cluster. Unlike other container solutions,Singularity does not require root level permissions to run containers, which allows users to freely control what software stack they wish to use.Provisioning of a container image can be done locally on the user’s machine or on Singularity Hub. The resulting image can then be securely executed on any machine with Singularity installed. Reproduction of results has never been easier: a user can now share a single Singularity image file that will ensure a consistent execution environment wherever it is run.
This presentation will provide an in-depth look at how Singularity is able to securely run user containers on HPC systems. After a brief introduction to Singularity and its relationship to other container solutions, the details of Singularity’s runtime will be explored. The way that Singularity leverages Linux features such as namespaces, bind mounts, and SUID binaries will be discussed in further detail as well.”
Building an ActionScript Game Server with over 15,000 Concurrent Connections Renaun Erickson
Building a server to manage high concurrent connections is non-trival task. For those developers that use ActionScript 3 to build games on the client side it means having a totally different skillset. Being able to use ActionScript 3 on the server to build MMO’s or port client code to the server allows developers to leverage their skills on the server.
By walking through a live game example with more then 15,000 concurrent connections running on a medium Amazon EC2 server the presentation will:
1. Introduce Linux server configuration for high concurrent connected usage.
2. Introduce Socket class based on libev library for high concurrent connection.
3. Introduce leveraging Tamarin project for ActionScript 3 on the server.
Hands on guide to the nuts and bolts of administering an MQ Appliance and key differences from working with a software MQ installation. (Live presentation was accompanied by demonstration of the MQ Console WebUI capabilities - some screenshots included give a flavor).

Linux firmware for iRMC controller on Fujitsu Primergy serversVladimir Shakhov
Integrated Remote Management Controller aka iRMC (http://manuals.ts.fujitsu.com/file/11470/irmc-s4-ug-en.pdf) is a special-purpose ARM board, included in every Fujitsu Primergy server and actually running on GNU/Linux. Digging into the process of creation of iRMC firmware, significantly based on FOSS components, including Linux kernel, busybox, glibc, net-snmp and many others. Lecture covering technical details how its working, how to use OpenSource components together with propiertary code.
Virtual machines in the cloud typically run existing general-purpose operating systems such as Linux. We notice that the cloud’s hypervisor already provides some features, such as isolation and hardware abstraction, which are duplicated by traditional operating systems, and that this duplication comes at a cost. We present the design and implementation of OSv, a new guest operating system designed specifically for running a single application on a virtual machine in the cloud. It addresses the duplication issues by using a low-overhead library-OS-like design. It runs existing applications written for Linux, as well as new applications written for OSv. We demonstrate that OSv is able to efficiently run a variety of existing applications. We demonstrate its sub-second boot time, small OS image and how it makes more memory available to the application. For unmodified network-intensive applications, we demonstrate up to 25% increase in throughput and 47% decrease in latency. By using non-POSIX network APIs, we can further improve performance and demonstrate a 290% increase in Memcached throughput.
