Employment in the Radio SectorCommercial RadioCommercial radio is any radio that doesn’t have adverts, this is every radio station apart from BBC. Most commercial radio stations serve a local or regional area and are owned by one of three big groups which dominate the sector. There are over 300 in the UK, mostly using FM frequencies and DAB.There are three national commercial stations broadcasting using FM aswel as DAB. These are; Classic FM, Absolute Radio and talkSPORT. Capital, Radio Aire and Real Radio are examples of commercial radio in our area.
Capital FM95-106 Capital FM is the UK's first national, commercial, hit music radio brand. It broadcasts all around the UK in places such as; London, Birmingham, East Midlands, Manchester, the North East, Scotland, the South Coast, South Wales and Yorkshire. It reaches 6.7 million listeners every week. Radio AireThe owner of the station is Bauer Radio. 96.3 Radio Aire is the Big City radio station for Leeds and the surrounding area. The station was launched in September 1981, and has won many awards including Sony Gold for their afternoon show. Radio Aire is unashamedly Leeds, the only local station dedicated to the city. Real RadioReal Radio is a wholly owned subsidiary of GMG Radio Holdings Limited. GMG Radio is one of the UK’s largest radio groups. Real Radio Yorkshire gets around 317, 000 listeners.
