2. Camera
The mid shot of the swimming pool with
the three women establishes the setting
to be in a positive and a normalized
location.
The birds eye view of all the woman
whilst carrying the baby enhances how
the baby is cared for by a large amount of
people. The characters are naive about
how significant the baby will be within
society.
The high angled birds eye view shot of
the Russian streets further establishes
another cultural setting that has been
introduced.
3. Sound
• The non-diegetic music in the
background of the opening
scene builds up a sense of
tension and confusion about
what is going on.
• The lack of diegetic speech
between characters creates an
overpowering sense
of awkwardness and
mystery as no one is talking
other than the instructor.
4. Mise en scene
• The mise en scene of the general
public's swimwear besides the pool is
very fitting towards the setting and
makes the setting feel normalized.
• The instructors' thick goggles depict
him to be someone very smart and well
knowledgeable. Furthermore, his
rugged clothes make him stand out
compared to everyone else around
the pool. The instructor being the only
one properly clothed creates a sense of
mystery and confusion for the
audience.
5. Editing
• The use of the serif font throughout the
opening of the episode gives a very
sophisticated and classical feel to the
series. The contrast of the writing
compared to the dark dull background
make the credits stand out more and
kore likely to be noticed.
• The useful editing of
the workers moving away
the subtitles is effective as it makes the
audience have a higher chance of
reading them due to them moving.
