CH2019 keynote: Lukas Vermeer - One neat trick to run better experimentsWebanalisten .nl
(video summary at: https://conversionhotel.com/session/keynote-2019-run-better-experiments-srm-checks/)
Lukas combines industry experience in online experimentation and data science with an academic background in computing science and machine learning. When I first met him, he was already a smart guy, but still working at Oracle. A year later he moved on to Booking.com (almost 7 years ago already – he has seen a large bunch of new employees coming in :-)) to finally become their director of experimentation.
Lukas is responsible for the internal tooling and training that helps product development improve the customer experience in measurable steps through thousands of experiments. Of course he presented about this around the world, but never at Texel. Finally it was time to ask him – not to speak about democratizing experimentation or his storytelling on statistics. You have probably seen that before. We asked him because you, as CH2019 attendees, asked us to go advanced on experimentation and he is one of the only ones in Europe that has (co-)written in depth scientific papers on experimentation.
And that is exactly what Lukas is going to do: go in depth on his recent Sample Ratio Mismatch paper.
Enjoy the ride,

In recent years, more and more enterprises notice about what values of Big Data can bring, and willing to devote more resources to Big Data field. Doing Hadoop for PoC and further for running in PROD. In common cases, enterprises need to get their servers first for running their Hadoop. By now, thanks for the popularity of Hadoop and its ecosystem. Enterprises have another choice for doing Hadoop, which is, doing it on Public Cloud platforms, such as Amazon, etc. Trend Micro also noticed this trends for Big Data on the cloud, and would like to leverage its elasticity to enable more chances to find more values from our Big Data with less of constraints. In this sharing, we would like to introduce our common Big Data computation platform - Analytic Engine (AE), which is a simple RESTful API service running on AWS for Trenders, with features, such as createCluster, deleteCluster and submitJob, etc. By now, Trenders can run their research jobs, and furthermore, build their own PoC/Staging/PROD levels of services based on AE, to get any computation resources they want, anytime and anyplace in Trend Micro, just by few RESTful API calls.

Research by AVG shows that although most small businesses understand the need to protect their IT systems, fewer are willing to put it into practice. Out of 2000 SMBs surveyed in the US and UK for the "SMB Landscape Report", more than half (52%) have no IT security guidelines for their staff, while 1 in 7 have no Internet security software or solutions in place at all.
How to assess your Cybersecurity Vulnerability_.pdfMetaorange
The new age of cyber threats is not limited to data breaches and ransomware attacks. They have become much more advanced with AI-based security analysis, crypto-jacking, facial recognition, and voice cloning via deep fake, IoT compromise, and cloud-based DDoS attacks.
How to assess your Cybersecurity Vulnerability_.pptxMetaorange
Surprisingly, Deepfake Technology, which was once used for fun, has now enabled phishing attacks. Rick McRoy detected a deep fake-based voice call that caused a CEO to transfer a sum amount of $35 Million.
Further, AI-powered cyberattacks also pose a serious security risk. Existing cybersecurity tools are not enough to counter this cyber weaponry.
In the wake of such incidents, the need for advanced cybersecurity tools is growing important.
