The Überseestadt was formerly a commercial harbor in Bremen, Germany that closed in 1981 due to its inability to accommodate modern ships. A development project began in 2002 to redevelop the area, which involved building a new road network, designating industrial and economic areas, and reconstructing living and working spaces. Today the Überseestadt is home to many corporations, cultural attractions like art projects in old buildings, and the Waterfront mall.
