Molloy, J. & D. Stokes. (2015) 'Learning by doing: becoming elearning librarians'. Presentation at the University College Dublin EdTECx Talks, March 19-20, 2015, UCD Campus, Dublin, Ireland.
So James has talked about our journey, I would like to show you where we are at the moment.
We have developed a landing page that brings all our various tutorial together which will help make them to be more easily discovered.
We also have highlighted guides and tutorials developed for researchers and also information on how these tutorials can be easily embedded into Blackboard
The tutorials themselves are divided thematically into 3 strands Finding, Evaluating and Managing
As James has pointed out we use two different software packages to create our tutorial. For the instructional tutorials we use Adobe captivate. These can either be made up of screen captures or static images and are published to Youtube . If you are still more confident using Powerpoint for Designing you can still do this and then import into Captivate. We ran into unexpected issues with tutorials made suing captivate in that videos were not viewable in China as Youtube access is blocked. This is also a problem in Irish Hospitals. We had to get around this by converting them into MP4 files and making the tutorials accessible that way. We are also looking at adding closed captions to these videos as there cabn be problems with youtube’s machine translation of the audio as well.
