What is a paragraph…
■ It’s an essential part or unit of the organization of ideas
■ It’s compose by different type of sentences
■ It’s developed by unity and coherence
– Common sense between sentences
■ Paragraphs difference themselves according to developing topic
■ Sentences of the paragraphs are connected by linkers
Types of paragraphs…
■ Descriptive
■ Narrative
■ Argumentative
■ Expository
 Persuasive
 Chronological
 List paragraph
 Explanatory
Descriptive…
■ It wants to provide specific details about the five senses
■ Brings the readers mind the object, place, person or situation that the writer is talking
about
■ It follows a logical order
“The widows house has a big black roof with a lot of translucent windows that shows
her expensive furniture and is surrounded by a big golden gate, definitely the most terrifying
house I’ve ever seen”
Narrative…
■ It could be about real or unreal (fantasy) situations
■ It’s wants to narrate and explain how situations happens
■ Narrative paragraph has some elements
– story teller ( narrator )
– Characters
– Time
– Place
– The action
Argumentative
■ ItWants to create a support to the writer’s ideas though arguments and solid
information about an specific topic
■ An argumentative paragraph it’s design to provide positive or negative reasons to the
readers about an specific situations, person, or objects
■ It is intended to protect or attack the idea of the story writer.
“Wolves are the one of the most interesting animals in the world because of their strange
nature, habits and behaviors in comparison of other animals, a good example of that is the
loyalty with the crew and the way how it works”
Expository…
Explanation
■ An expository paragraph wants to show:
– An explanation of a situation or idea
– Directions
– Instructions
■ It wants to talk about something that
happens
■ It gives specific details about things and
facts

■ It has a topic sentence
■ A supporting sentence
■ It follows a logical sequence
Persuasive…

■ Persuasive text are used not to
express literally writers position
■ It is to express the benefits and good
points about his or her believes or
position to change readers mind and
invite them to take an action

Chronological
■ Wants to narrate the order that things are developed or in which order things happen
■ It could be useful to describe how to reach a goal following specific steps
“First Pepito woke up at 6:00 am, after that he took his breakfast quickly because he was late for the
school, he took the bus at 7:30, he had just fifteen minutes to arrive because classes starts at 7:45. Next
arrived, Pepito had to state outside of his classroom when he arrive just 15 minutes late, and that’s the
reason why he walked back to home lonely and crying to arrive there at 10:00 am to sleep and wait to
repeat the same story the next day.”

■ It wants express an specific order using the ordinal numbers
■ It could be use to organize information of various elements
– Animals that conform the group of mammals are:
■ In first place are we have the sea animals like the whales, next to dolphins
■ Second are land animals, like Lions and wolves
■ And finally the human

■ The reason why the explanatory paragraphs are created is to amplify and specify some
ideas
■ Wants to give detail information
■ It talks about previous topics developed on a text
