Measurement is the process of assigning numbers or symbols to characteristics of a variable, which can be easy for tangible properties like weight but more difficult for abstract concepts like intelligence. There are two main types of measurement: qualitative measurement, which uses descriptive statements and deals with textual data, and quantitative measurement, which seeks answers on defined measurement scales like nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio.

• Measurement is the process of assigning the

properties of some objects like weight,
biological age or a person’s financial assets,
but it is relatively difficult in respect of others.
For instance, measuring such things as social
conformity, intelligence, or marital adjustment
is comparatively difficult.

• Qualitative research mostly uses descriptive

questions. So, it applies qualitative
measurement.

answers are usually sought on one of the
measurement scales (nominal, ordinal,
interval
