Types of
Documentaries
Expository:
These are documentaries that expose a person or a topic.
They normally try to persuade the viewer to think the same
thing as the documentarian, and they include a voiceover
and sometimes a person in front of the camera.
Reflexive:
This is when the film maker places themselves in front of
the camera and narrates the documentary. Louis Theroux
is an example of who makes reflexive documentaries.

2. Observational:
The documentarian follows the subject around to observe
what is happening in their surroundings. There is normally
no voice over or interviews (eg. Teen Cribs).
Participatory:
The film maker becomes a part of what is happening
between them and the subject, but they remain unobtrusive
to what is happening.
