2. Languages • The language that the
people speak in Turks
and Caicos is English.
• There are other native
languages such as French,
Creole, and Spanish, but
English language is the most
common.
• A common phrase that you
might hear is Ya Mon.
• It’s very common to hear
this phrase because the
people are so laid back and
willing to do anything for
some extra money.
3. The music in Turks and
Caicos is not really known
in the US.
That’s because we are too
involved in our own pop
music.
Mostly all the music in Turks
and Caicos is from local bands
or singers on the Island.
There are some know people
like Rihanna from St. Michael
which is near Turks and Caicos.

4. They rely mainly on imports
from other countries, they do
have a variety of dishes from
the sea.
Their most popular dish on
the island is Conch in which
they have six different kinds.
In general, they specialize in
fresh sea-foods that are then
seasoned with Caribbean.
Like I said before, they make
profit on exporting their sea-
food, and in some cases, they
will export it to the US, mainly
to the southern states though
because the fresh sea-food
wouldn't make it to the
northern part of the US.
5. They did have cotton plantations
there, but the farmers of 1780
were struggling greatly against
the US's booming businesses
due to the thin soil there.
Imports include of-- Food and
Live Animals, Crude
Products, Mineral Fuels,
Machinery, and Transport
Equipment, etc…
Resources include of spiny
lobster and conch.
They are known for their tourism
and large resorts. They have
close to 550 resorts total on the
islands and 70 local restaurants
per city per island. All of this
tourism started only 30 years
ago.
6. Current Standard of
Living
Although it seems as if they only rely upon tourism, their literacy
rate shows otherwise. 98.0% of the population are literate in Turks
and Caicos.
This actually does help the tourism though because a lot of the
jobs located their in the resorts require reading and/or writing.
Health there is very good since they have a higher life-
expectancy number than the US's.
And because of their healthy diets
(because most people cannot afford
"junk" and extra food like those in the
US) they live longer. People there live till
and average of 79-80, whereas the US
is till 78 years.
Poverty there is very low and since
there obviously is a bit, it is not visible
by the visiting tourists.
7. Health care is in progress of being reduced
in cost, although Turks and Caicos has
spent $104 million for health care
programs in this past year.
Health- Care- Issues
Otherwise, despite the overspending, they
have decent health care along with a skilled
and dedicated workforce.
