Turkish tourism has grown dramatically over the past few decades due to investments in infrastructure like airports and hotels, training tourism staff, and successful marketing campaigns. Tourist arrivals increased from 1.2 million in 1980 to over 28 million in 2010, and tourism receipts grew from $400 million to $21.3 billion over the same period. Turkey aims to welcome 50 million tourists and generate $50 billion in tourism revenue by 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic.
