European Directive 2003/10/EC 15th February 2006
The above regulations require employers to provide suitable ear protection to employees that are working in noise levels
between 80dB and 85dB on request. If noise levels rise above this then ear protection must be worn. Regulation 8
states that when not in use items should be stored in proper accommodation i.e. lockers etc. Regulation 9 states that
employees must be fully trained in the use of any PPE equipment supplied. Noise can be unpleasant, sometimes
dangerous and can cause permanent damage over a period of time so correct hearing protection is imperative.

Eye & Face Protection
The wearing of eye and face protection in hazardous areas is a requirement under regulation 4 of the
Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992. This regulation requires employers to provide suitable
personal protective equipment to employees exposed to health and safety risks.
European Standards state that safety eyewear must be approved to BS EN166 (replaces BS2092). Safety eyewear must
be marked to identify the protection offered, see chart below. It must offer eye protection from impact hazards caused by
fast moving particles, from operations such as chipping, grinding and cutting, and from accidental airborne hazards such
as a grinding wheel failing or snapping a cutting tool. The potential impact speed must be assessed before selecting the
standard protection. If the hazard could dislodge safety glasses then goggles or a face shield should be selected.
When chemical splash is a consideration unvented goggles must be selected to give full eye enclosure protection.

A full ophthalmic prescription service is available for safety spectacles.
Obtain a prescription form from your local distributor.
Fill in part 1.
This may need to be completed by your company
safety officer. Take the form to your optician who
will carry out a vision test. Your optician will then
return the completed prescription form back to
us.
Your spectacles will be manufactured,
usually within 14 days and sent to your
optician for fitting. The dispensing fee can
be settled separately or included into the
invoice from your local distributor.
The final invoice will be sent to your
company, it will include the frame,
lenses and, if applicable, dispensing
fee, it will not include the test or
any accessories - these are
payable directly to the optician.
