m-hance: Three Steps to Success Event took place in Central London on 12th May 2015 and attended by our Microsoft Dynamics experts and customers looking to see how their ERP and CRM software can help them exceed business objectives. The event was delivered across 2 separate streams: a Microsoft Dynamics GP stream for finance professionals; and a Microsoft Dynamics CRM stream for marketing/support managers.
The IT industry moves at light speed fueled by constant change and advancement. No area of IT has been affected more by this change than the hosting and managed service space.
These are the 9 things your cloud provider should offer you!
With the growth of cloud computing, technical managers are looking for ways to leverage this emerging platform to improve performance, reduce costs, and better serve their users. Due to the complexity of enterprise applications and their dependence legacy systems, some managers have concluded that making use of the cloud to power these applications is impossible, or prohibitively difficult.
This webinar will focus on the concept of “Hybrid Applications”; applications that take advantage of the latest cloud technologies while still retaining on-premise legacy systems. Specific examples of hybrid applications will be presented and discussed in order to show how development and IT managers can begin migration to the cloud.

The cloud can be considered the software and services that reside and operate over the internet rather than an on-premise network of servers. There are many things enterprises must do to facilitate a smooth migration to the cloud. To adapt to the cloud, they have to improve the scalability of internet-based database capabilities while reducing the cost of risk.
Moving to the cloud not only helps reduce costs but also imparts flexibility and scalability to the organisation. Adding an extra server requires capital expenditure, while dynamically changing requirements like this can be considered operating expenses. Despite these advantages, the cost might still be too high for it to matter so go over every aspect that can or will be impacted.

8 Things to Consider as SharePoint Moves to the CloudChristian Buckley
A review of the changes happening inside the SharePoint platform and throughout the industry as more and more organizations begin to develop their cloud strategies. This presentation provides some guidance on how to develop your own cloud strategy. Initially presented at IT Pro Camp DC, Feb 2014.
With today’s evolving technological landscape, chances are you’ve heard of the term “cloud.” You may have even wondered why anyone would be talking about the weather along with computing infrastructures and data centers. Although the popularity of the cloud has gradually risen, there are many people who still don’t know exactly what it is.
The cloud is the general term for cloud computing, which refers to the use of the Internet to access hosted services or your own applications, storage, servers, and data that are hosted in a remote location. Saving your files to the cloud allows you to access them from anywhere at any time, as long as you have an Internet connection. You have probably been using cloud services or resources for a while without even knowing it. The most common cloud services include Gmail, Dropbox, Google Docs, and even Twitter.
Cloud computing is continuing to gain momentum among businesses and consumers alike. It offers consumers a more convenient way to store and share their files as well as access their data at any time, from anywhere. Businesses are virtualizing corporate desktops in the cloud and have considerably reduced the costs of maintaining their physical IT infrastructures in the process. Cloud services allow for more flexible working practices as well as greater mobility. Accessing your data on any device is safe and secure, and actually gives companies a better way to manage and secure data.
Cloud computing focuses on shared resources within the infrastructure. This means that customers share physical resources while maintaining security by reinforcing their “piece of the pie” with firewalls and virtual security. By focusing on this shared resource methodology, cloud companies can offer incredibly cost-effective rates compared to traditional computing due to the positive economies of scale. The more tenants that occupy a cloud, the more cost effective a solution becomes. The best Cloud providers use this method to offer solutions for a fraction of what they would cost should an organization attempt to do them in-house.
The cloud is quickly becoming commonplace in the world of technology. Its accessibility and convenience are undeniable, and more often than not, businesses and service providers have considered implementing or currently utilize cloud computing.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
