Dr. Thanadeka Mazibuko is a 38-year-old registrar in the Radiation Oncology Department at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. [1] She grew up in a rural area of KwaZulu-Natal and faced many challenges to become a medical doctor as she was raised by her single mother who worked as a domestic worker. [2] Her main motivation for working in oncology was that many people in her rural community did not know what cancer was and lacked access to medical services. [3] Through her NGO, she has created a bridge between the medical system and rural communities by providing free cancer screenings on weekends and other initiatives to improve access and education.
