Sustainable Agriculture thru Alternative Rice Intensification System Enhancement (ARISE): A Philippine Perspective RONNIE C. ALONZO University of the Philippines-Diliman
WHAT IS ARISE? Alternative Rice Intensification System Enhancement (ARISE) is a combination of 5 farming methodology that includes System of Rice Intensification (SRI), a method developed in Madagascar by Father Henrie de Laulanie in 1981. ARISE as a modern farming system, was developed by Ronnie C. Alonzo to increase the yield of the farmers and decrease their dependence on inorganic fertilizer and other chemically-based products. This system was conceptualize to address the poverty-related problems in the countryside and it is aimed at uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the farmers and the poor thru increased yields but lowered production thereby giving them an edge in the market and increasing their income potential.
OBJECTIVE Increase the yield of the farmers by 10 – 35% on the first application of the system up to 100% increase or more if the system will be followed. Decrease dependence on inorganic fertilizer usage and other chemically-based products like (pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, molluskcides, fungicides, and others.) Uplift the socio-economic conditions of the farmers in the countryside by increasing their income potential through producing organically grown products.
Different Stages in Rice Production
COMPONENTS OF ARISE Proper Seed Selection Thorough Land Preparation Soil Nutrient Management Integrated Pest Management Water Management
Choose Rice Varieties with high tillering capacity and resistance to pest and diseases. Proper Seed Selection
Thorough Land Preparation
Robust Root System Profuse Tillering Soil Nutrient Management
Trigrow Nano-Organic Fertilizer Introducing
Creates Habitat for MICROORGANISMS
Produces Healthy and Robust Root System
Leading to Profuse Tillering For better yield
Integrated Pest Management
Use Mechanical Weeder to Aerate the Soil & Eliminate Grass Problem
Maintain 2-5cm. depth water Water Management
ARISE TRADITIONAL COMPARISON Wider Spacing(30cm X 30cm) Narrow Spacing(15cm X 15cm)
ARISE TRADITIONAL COMPARISON Healthy Pale More Tillers Few Tillers
