Over half of the Hispanic Tulsans do not have a high school diploma, and over half of those
people did not complete 9th
grade at all.
Tulsa Public Schools has reported to Community Service Council, current Drop-out rate for
Latino Students to be 50%
• ~Identity Crisis (Mexican or American)
• ~No help from the Parents in anything
American
• ~No introduction in American sports or arts
• ~No reading assistance
• ~Fight or flight Mentally with school projects
(Hopeless in keeping up)
• ~ Fear of deportation for them or Family and
Friends
• No reading assistance or help with homework
– Social Studies
– American History
• Other students make the ELL kids feel dumb
• Solutions
– Using Tutoring programs
– Solving busing issues for kids to have rides after tutoring.
