Treston’s Amazing
Hunting and Fishing
Poems
By: Treston Eblin
Pd. 1
May 19, 2014
It was a cool, crisp morning that November dayAs I
climbed into my stand.Mother Nature was asleep,
it was just before dawn,And the only sound was
the wind.As I took my seat, I thought of the hunt.I
wandered if I would have good luck. What would I
see from my stand that day?
Would I bag my
trophy buck?

At the first light of day, the first sound I heardWas
the "caw, caw, caw" of a crow.I watched him and
listened to his wakeup callAs I sat there with my
bow.As they awoke, the birds chirped, and a
squirrelhunted acornsAs the nighttime slowly
turned into dawn. Then, suddenly, out from the
brush and into the clearingStepped a doe and her
two fawns.
My focus turned to them as my heart beat faster.
I was hoping they were followed by my
prize.I became perfectly still - I tried to
breathe slowly -As I followed their
movements with my eyes. The two fawns
played and danced around their mother,
Not unlike the manner of a child. But, at
the slightest sound, their ears perked up
To alert them to the dangers of the wild.
After a while, the animals wandered off,
and I was alone. The only sound left was
the wind.No trophy this day, but it didn't
matter. What a great day it had been!
For
you see, a true hunter lives for the hunt,
And not only for the kill.To witness God's
creation, and to be a part,For a true
hunter, that's the thrill!

I was hoping they were followed by my

For

And not only for the kill.To witness God's
creation, and to be a part,For a true
hunter, that's the thrill!

I liked this poem because it
describes exactly what a hunter
thinks, and feels. The imagery I
found in this poem was in the
line, “As they awoke, the birds
chirped, and a squirrel hunted
acorns”. There were no major
terms in the poem; it was just
telling a story.
The Joys Of Turkey Hunting
The sport of the turkey hunt, is lots of funSit in
the bush, with your trusty gun But first you must
go, to turkey schoolProve to the lands and forest,
you are no fool
So off we go my friend and I, to this turkey class
We sit all day, get a sore back and flat ass If we
fail this turkey class, I say with a frownWe surely,
will never live it down
Well we aced the class, both my friend and ISo
it's off to the hunt, we go on the fly We can't be
seen, for we are in a turkey blindThe turkey class
yes, fresh on our mind
I grabbed the turkey call, lets give it a tryI'm
telling you, this is no lieAn answer from a big old
gobbler, right thenSoon I see, a nice big turkey
hen
But in this spring hunt,it's the gobbler we are
after I call again,
It's the gobbler l want to see, yes a little
fasterTo my surprise here he comes, in the
far bush lineTurkey on my plate, is now on
my mind
Well in this hunt, the turkey languageyou
must learn, of this there is no doubtFor I
called him once again, lets try to coax him out
Well there language I did not learnFor he
didn't call back and it was his turnI guess I
must have told him to piss offFor that's what
he did, for quickly he got lost
Yes he was soon gone from my eyesWith not
even a wave goodbyeI guess in this turkey
school,if I am in the head of the class Then
I'm for sure a certified turkey,or maybe just a
turkeys ass

“The Joys of Turkey Hunting”
The title says it all. The poem talks
about how you’re constantly learning in
the game of turkey hunting. It is mostly an
imagery poem, and free verse.
“Quick Kill”
Sunrise gobble sound
Trees waken raining
turkeys
Gun speaks, gobbler
silent
I thought it was funny how
fast the poem escalated.
There was personification,
“Trees waken”, and there was
a hyperbole when the author
said that it was raining
turkeys.
“Up in a Tree”
Here I sit, up in a tree. With my
bow right next to me.
Waitin for a friggin deer.
Guess I’ll have another beer.
Another hour comes and goes
all I’ve seen is friggin does.
Waiting for that friggin buck
Got some more beer in my truck
The first thing I noticed about the poem is that it has a couplet, and an
internal rhyme. The poem reminded me of my uncle so I chose to put it in
my slideshow.
“God Grant that I Catch a Fish”
God grant that I catch a fish so big that even I when speaking of it afterwards
will have no need to lie
The tone of the poem is begful. This poem is a free verse, and sort of a satire. I believe it is
funny because the narrator is asking God for a big enough fish so he won’t have to lie. When I
read this poem I imagine a fisherman on his knees begging god for a huge fish.
“Hunting”
Not just anyone can be a hunter, it takes a certain kind. It’s not for
the sqeamish or fearful or those with a weak mind.
You’ve got to have the right tools, and know how to use them.. You’ve
got to know the rules, and never abuse them.
Not just anyone can be a hunter, it requires certain skill and patience,
and a hand that’s steady and still
This is my favorite poem, because it says
that it takes certain people to be a
hunter. This poem has internal rhymes
and end rhymes. “It takes a certain
kind” and “or those with a weak mind.
“The One that got Away” By: Ken Harper
As she got closer to the boat, my knees begin to
shake and I’m staring down on her back. She made
a run and leaped right up into the air, she tail walked
then shook her big ole head.
My lure came flying from somewhere, I ducked it
just in time and hung it in a tree.
Later as I ponder, I figure it this way, to have a
chance to win today, I needed that ten pounder, the
one that got away.
This poem relates to the tournament fishing I do and what it takes to win.
There is imagery in the poem like, “My lure came flying from somewhere,
I ducked and stuck it in a tree.” There is also personification, “tail walked”.
Fish don’t walk, duh!
“Excitement” By: Me
Excitement is camouflage
It taste like deer jerky
it sounds like leaves
crunching.
It smells like a fresh, cut corn
field
It looks like a blood trail
It makes you feel adrenaline
I used my own poem because I
know it shows imagery and it
shows the passion I have for
hunting. I used the 5 senses to
describe what excitement is.

I was hoping they were followed by my prize.I became perfectly still - I tried to breathe slowly -As I followed their movements with my eyes. The two fawns played and danced around their mother, Not unlike the manner of a child. But, at the slightest sound, their ears perked up To alert them to the dangers of the wild. After a while, the animals wandered off, and I was alone. The only sound left was the wind.No trophy this day, but it didn't matter. What a great day it had been!
For you see, a true hunter lives for the hunt, And not only for the kill.To witness God's creation, and to be a part,For a true hunter, that's the thrill!

  • 3. I liked this poem because it describes exactly what a hunter thinks, and feels. The imagery I found in this poem was in the line, “As they awoke, the birds chirped, and a squirrel hunted acorns”. There were no major terms in the poem; it was just telling a story.

  • 5. “The Joys of Turkey Hunting” The title says it all. The poem talks about how you’re constantly learning in the game of turkey hunting. It is mostly an imagery poem, and free verse.
  • 6. “Quick Kill” Sunrise gobble sound Trees waken raining turkeys Gun speaks, gobbler silent
  • 7. I thought it was funny how fast the poem escalated. There was personification, “Trees waken”, and there was a hyperbole when the author said that it was raining turkeys.
  • 8. “Up in a Tree” Here I sit, up in a tree. With my bow right next to me. Waitin for a friggin deer. Guess I’ll have another beer. Another hour comes and goes all I’ve seen is friggin does. Waiting for that friggin buck Got some more beer in my truck
  • 9. The first thing I noticed about the poem is that it has a couplet, and an internal rhyme. The poem reminded me of my uncle so I chose to put it in my slideshow.
  • 10. “God Grant that I Catch a Fish” God grant that I catch a fish so big that even I when speaking of it afterwards will have no need to lie
  • 11. The tone of the poem is begful. This poem is a free verse, and sort of a satire. I believe it is funny because the narrator is asking God for a big enough fish so he won’t have to lie. When I read this poem I imagine a fisherman on his knees begging god for a huge fish.
  • 12. “Hunting” Not just anyone can be a hunter, it takes a certain kind. It’s not for the sqeamish or fearful or those with a weak mind. You’ve got to have the right tools, and know how to use them.. You’ve got to know the rules, and never abuse them. Not just anyone can be a hunter, it requires certain skill and patience, and a hand that’s steady and still
  • 13. This is my favorite poem, because it says that it takes certain people to be a hunter. This poem has internal rhymes and end rhymes. “It takes a certain kind” and “or those with a weak mind.
  • 14. “The One that got Away” By: Ken Harper As she got closer to the boat, my knees begin to shake and I’m staring down on her back. She made a run and leaped right up into the air, she tail walked then shook her big ole head. My lure came flying from somewhere, I ducked it just in time and hung it in a tree. Later as I ponder, I figure it this way, to have a chance to win today, I needed that ten pounder, the one that got away.
  • 15. This poem relates to the tournament fishing I do and what it takes to win. There is imagery in the poem like, “My lure came flying from somewhere, I ducked and stuck it in a tree.” There is also personification, “tail walked”. Fish don’t walk, duh!
  • 16. “Excitement” By: Me Excitement is camouflage It taste like deer jerky it sounds like leaves crunching. It smells like a fresh, cut corn field It looks like a blood trail It makes you feel adrenaline
  • 17. I used my own poem because I know it shows imagery and it shows the passion I have for hunting. I used the 5 senses to describe what excitement is.
  • 18. Cinquain: Deer Stunning Majestic Jumping, dieing, busting Deer taste good, deer make great big targets Food
