This is a document showing some plans and ideas for my costume and props that I will need to source and use within my music video for my A level in media studies.
1. TREATMENT SHEET
Whistle For The Choir – The Fratellis
BACKGROUND ON THE SONG "Whistle for the Choir" is a song by The Fratellis,
and their third single. It was released on 27 November 2006 and reached #9 in the UK
Singles Chart hence marking their second UK Top 10 single. The song was originally titled
'Knickers in a Handbag' but was changed due to pressure from the label. The artwork points
toward the old name by showing a girl on the cover handling a pair of knickers above a
handbag.
2. MUSIC VIDEO
In my music video I intend to use narrative throughout. From breaking down the lyrics I have
come up with the concept of a girl and a boy staring in the video. I will have the boy walking
the streets singing the song with a guitar in hand, while the public just walk past him taking
no notice. I almost want him to feel lost and the only thing that could help that is the girl that
doesn’t even know he exists. Throughout the girl will go through her daily routine, walking
the streets of Newcastle with the boy following her behind watching every move she does. I
don’t want the video to look creepy like he’s her stalker but in a romantic sense. There will
be different locations but all shot in Newcastle. Although I may have to shoot some at home
if I need any more footage.
COSTUME/PROPS
The costume I will have the girl in is a dress with a coat, hairs down with little make up on
but bold red lips, this could symbolise that she wants to be a sophisticated girl and doesn’t
have time for a man (referring to the lyrics in the song). The boy will be in skinny jeans and
vans with a buttoned up polo shirt and a jacket. Both of the characters have to represent the
indie fashion so this is why they will be dressed this way. The props in the video will consist
of a guitar in while the boy will have throughout and the girl will just have a bag to make it
look realistic.
3. IDEAS
I have decided that my video will include a variety of shots; especially close ups of the girls
face to represent her beauty towards the audience and what the boy sees in so special about
her as this is quite a typical convention of the genre indie music videos. There will also be a
lot of long shots of both of them being in the frame with the boy being behind the girl almost
hiding. I will use a lot of interesting editing techniques E.I jump cuts to make the video more
appealing.
