This document provides character biographies and context for the film Little Miss Sunshine. It describes the main characters, including Olive Hoover, an 8-year-old girl dreaming of winning a beauty pageant, her arrogant father Richard, her quiet brother Dwayne, her funny grandfather Edwin, and her easily persuaded mother Sheyrl. Blurb Family targeted drama adventure. A family
determined to get their young daughter
into the finals of a beauty pageant take a
cross-country trip in their VW bus.
Character biographies Olive Hoover – played by Abigail Breslin, Olive is
a young girl who is forever wishing to be miss
America one day. She dreams of becoming a
winner from the national beauty pageant. She
has an excellent relationship with her grandpa
and aspires to do everything to make him happy.
Richard Hoover- Played by Greg Kinnear.
Richard is a very one minded kind of man and
likes to do things his way and the right way. He’s
arrogant and not afraid to show how feels in
inconvenient situations.
Dwayne – Played by Paul Dano. Dwayne is an
extremely quiet character and only has a few
lines throughout the whole film! However he is a
miss understood and complicated character we
see this through the way he acts in the film. His
emotions and feeling are portrayed very
differently to others in this film.
Grandpa Edwin – Played by Alan Arkin.
Grandpa is a very funny character and has an
excellent relationship with his granddaughter,
not so much the grandson. He is a character that
makes elder people who watch this film laugh.
He brings a lot of comedy to the film with his
inappropriate comments but is awfully different
to his son, Richard. Grandpa has a good heart
and is loved very much by his family.
Sheyrl hoover – Played by Toni collete. Sheyrl
(also known as mum) is a good hearted woman
and is easily persuaded. She is constantly on the
go and in the film sequence we see her most of
the time stressed, knackered or happy. She
portrays what most mums do every day in their
life. She’s encouraging but is not defeated when
her arrogant husband tries to put her down.
Statement of intent
I plan to complete this short five minute
sequence by expanded the shots and possibly
adding in a few of my own lines, to show it is a
real re-enactment.
I’m the best possible person to capture this re-
enactment as I have planned how when and why
I need to do this. I’m very organised and can

2. work well within a short amount of time. I will
have to plan all the pre productio0n beforehand
to then go ahead and film, in lessons and outside
of college in my free spare time.
Storyline A young girl around the age of 8 is dying to be a
part of the ‘little miss sunshine’ beauty pageant.
Her family cross and horrendous amount of
family obstacles for Olive to be at the national
pageant in memory of her grandpa.
