EuropeanaLocal is a European Commission-funded project involving 32 cultural heritage institutions across Europe to aggregate their digital collections. The project aims to support the development of national and regional aggregators to provide content to Europeana. It is promoting standards, infrastructure development, and further digitization. For the initial Rhine release, EuropeanaLocal partners contributed approximately 4 million items, making it the main content provider. The project plans to harvest 10 million items by 2011 from 27 fully operational repositories and 100 new content providers.
The document discusses the GAMA project, which aimed to consolidate digital media art archives across Europe into a single platform for discovery and access called Europeana. It provided statistics on the number of artists, works, languages and other content included in GAMA. The project brought together various organizations to develop requirements, specifications, interfaces and tools to aggregate and expose the content while accounting for the diverse needs and characteristics of different archives. An iterative design process was used to test and refine the system based on best practices and user feedback.

How CulturaItalia supports cultural organization to prepare metadataEuropeanaLocal Project
CulturaItalia provides organizational and technical support to help cultural organizations prepare metadata for their digital collections. There are three ways for content providers to participate: database ingestion through an OAI-PMH repository, press releases, or by contacting CulturaItalia directly. The nine step process includes defining the database structure, formalizing a participation agreement, creating an official mapping document between the database and portal, installing an OAI-PMH repository, extracting and verifying data, harvesting metadata, and setting update timeframes. CulturaItalia assists with all technical aspects to help content providers successfully share their collections.
The document discusses the Hellenic Aggregator project, which aggregates records from various Greek institutions into a single searchable collection. It includes over 128,000 records from contributors like the National Documentation Center of Greece. The project utilizes various tools to extract metadata from digital libraries in different formats and make it available through the OAI-PMH protocol. This includes the DeiXTo tool for extracting data from websites and transforming it into OAI-PMH format, as well as the Open Archives Engine for creating a search portal from OAI-PMH sources. DSpace plugins have also been developed to add Europeana Semantic Element support.
The Culture Grid connects collections information from different sources to make it more accessible. It contains over 1.2 million item records, 10,000 collection records, and 7,500 institution records covering the UK. Collections information in the Culture Grid is used for time-based, map-based, and subject-based searches. Organizations can add their collections information by pushing large amounts of stable data, pulling frequently changing data, or entering small amounts of data. The process involves mapping records to Culture Grid formats and providing sample records and a technical translation. The Culture Grid can then be used through its search functions or harvested for other services.
This document summarizes the key points about Italy's CulturaItalia licence agreement and how it compares to Europeana's licence agreement. The CulturaItalia agreement allows content providers to share metadata and digital resources for non-commercial use under a CC Attribution-NonCommercial licence. It aims to aggregate cultural content while respecting copyright. Europeana's licence applies no restrictions, allowing commercial reuse which supports linked open data. However, this may not be suitable for Italy given involvement of private providers and institutions.

This document provides instructions for registering for and using the Maltese Digital Library website. It outlines the steps to register an account, name a collection, select uploading or adding resources, choose files to upload, fill in required details, and add resources to a collection.
The document outlines the agenda for a National Meeting in Europe about Europeana and EuropeanaLocal. The meeting in Malta will include presentations about Expo and how it works, as well as a question and answer session. It will discuss how Europeana and EuropeanaLocal make Europe's cultural heritage more accessible online and how Malta contributes digital cultural objects.
This document summarizes a workshop on aggregation for Europeana. It defines aggregation as assembling documents to form a new document or collection. For Europeana, an aggregator collects metadata from content providers and transmits it, helping providers conform to standards. Aggregators also support providers with administration and training. The document discusses options for aggregation, the roles of aggregators, and technical requirements around interoperability and preparing data for Europeana.
The document discusses the ATHENA programme, which is a network of good practices financed by the eContentplus programme. It is a 30 month project coordinated by MiBAC involving 20 EU member states, Israel, Russia, and Azerbaijan and 109 museums and cultural institutions in Europe. The key activities of ATHENA include identifying standards and developing recommendations to support data integration and interoperability, integrating existing data structures into Europeana, and developing an ingester tool to integrate different standards and harvesting formats with a focus on semantic interoperability. The goal is to practically bring ingested content into Europeana in an interoperable and semantically enriched format.
The document discusses technical and metadata standards for digitizing collections in museums, libraries, archives, and audiovisual archives. It provides an overview of relevant standards, recommendations for different uses including master archiving, service provision, and discovery. Formats recommended for text, images, audio, video, vector graphics and virtual reality are outlined. The importance of using open standards for interoperability, reusability and reducing costs is emphasized.
1. Travel Europeana Suomen Vanhat Matkailukirjat Kansalliskirjasto Tiina Ison, pääsunnittelija - [email_address] Konservointi ja Digittointikeskus Giuseppe Acerbi Travels through Sweden, Finland and Lappland to the North Cape in the years 1798 and 1799
Vuonna 1802 hän julkaisi retkestään laajan englanninkielisen teoksen Travels through Sweden, Finland and Lapland to the North Cape in the years 1798 and 1799 , ja siitä tuli sensaatio. Teos käännettiin pian saksaksi, ranskaksi ja hollanniksi. Matkakertomusta on pidetty erinomaisena kuvauksena Suomesta vuonna 1799. Kirja antoi myönteistä tietoa eurooppalaisille lukijoille Suomesta ja maan olosuhteista. Lisäksi Acerbi ja hänen matkakumppaninsa Skjöldebrand veivät suomalaista kirjallisuutta ensi kerran Eurooppaan. Acerbin matkakirjoissa olevat havainnolliset piirrokset ovat tulleet tunnetuiksi Suoman kansan kuvauksina . Tunnetuin esimerkki lienee Acerbin kirjassa oleva kuva vastatusten istuvista ja toisiaan kädestä pitävistä miehistä . Kuva on nimetty ” suomalaisiksi runonlaulajiksi ” . Myöhempi tutkimus on tosin kiistänyt kuvan esittävän runonlaulantaa. ”
Kielet: ruotsi, latina, englanti, ranska, saksa, hollanti (nämä kielet n. 85 kirjan aineistossa). Kongressin kirjaston sanastoa. Abstraktit Abstraktien muotoilulle on valittu lyhyt ilmaisumuoto. Tässäkin on päädytty lyhyeen ilmaisuun.
